Accountants of Judicial Service granted bail

Accra, June 11, GNA - Two accountants of the Judicial Service accused of stealing GH 190,000 cedis following an audit by the service were on Thursday granted bail.

While Joseph K. Mbeah, a former accountant in the Eastern Region was granted GH 190,000 cedis bail with four sureties one to be justified, Fuseni Matalu Alaru, the current one stationed in the Eastern Region was admitted to bail in the sum of GH 150,000 cedis with four sureties one to be justified.

The two arraigned on separate charge sheets have been charged with stealing. Their pleas have not been taken and they are expected to reappear on June 25.

When the case was called Inspector Stephen Baidoo did not object to the grant of bail but told to the court the investigations were on going. Facts available indicated that the Audit Inspectorate of the Judicial Service carried out a special audit between January and April. During the auditing, investigations carried out from January 2006 to December 2008, revealed that Mbeah failed to account for GH 92,260.68 cedis and in the case of Alaru he could also not account for GH 98,225.04 cedis. first quarter

Nkoranza (B/A), June 11, GNA - Police at Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region recorded 13 motor accidents involving 15 vehicles between January and March this year. Three people died whilst 29 others sustained various degrees of injuries, Superintendent D.O. Lomotey, District Police Commander, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Nkoranza. He expressed concern about the spate of road accidents nationwide and said it was the responsibility of all to take precautionary measures to check the trend. "There is the need for both drivers and pedestrians to adhere strictly to and observe traffic regulations to prevent accidents," he said. Supt. Lomotey advised drivers to avoid over speeding and unnecessary overtaking, which he said had been identified as major causes of road accidents. He asked drivers to limit speed in town and at road crossing points to avoid knocking down pedestrians or running into other vehicles. Supt. Lomotey said parents and teachers must also educate children on how to cross the road and advise them against playing football at the roadside. He said; "people should be careful whenever they wish to cross the road, by firstly looking left, then right and left again before crossing". Supt Lomotey urged drivers to ensure that they had clear view before overtaking a vehicle to avoid running into an on-coming vehicle. 11 June 09
