5-member armed robbery gang terrorizing locals

Fear has gripped residents of New Juaben in the Eastern Region as a gang of armed robbers continue to terrorize inhabitants at gun point.

The robbery gang of five members including a female has robbed many residents and businesses, particularly mobile money vendors, within the past few weeks.

Recently, the gang robbed a mobile money vendor at Two Streams and took away cash of GHc8000 at the same night they had robbed another resident at Betom.

A week ago, the robbery gang attacked and robbed Dr. Owusu Afriyie, one of the finest specialist gynaecologist in the region at gunpoint at about 9:30pm at his private apartment. He was slapped and beaten by the armed robbers.

The armed robbers made away with his flat screen TV set, mobile phones, wedding ring, wrist watch, amount of monies and silver–green coloured Nissan Sunny car with registration number, E/R 943-13.

The robbers had earlier robbed a hotel in the municipality.

On Tuesday, at about 10:30pm, the robbers who had robbed another resident had encountered the Police at Nsukwao, a Suburb of the New Juaben Municipality.

The robbers rammed their vehicle into a parked car after their car had flat tyre when being chased by Police. The armed robbers then jumped off their car and started opening fire at the Police while running away.

Unfortunately the Police couldn’t return fire because residents were also running helter – skelter hence managed to escape but the car believed to be a stolen car has been impounded by the New Juaben Police. Kojo Ansah Sasraku
