20-year old woman jailed for stealing

Kumasi, March 29, GNA - A 20-year-old unemployed woman, who stole a lady= 's handbag containing two cell phones, a purse and cash of GH¢130 has been=

sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court. Gertrude Adu alias "Akua" pleaded guilty to the offence. Police Chief Inspector Mercy Dokyi told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that the complainant, Eva Ofori Atta, reside= s at New Apatrapa, whilst the convict lives at North Suntreso, both suburbs= of Kumasi.

On Sunday February 21, 2010 Eva attended church service at the Tanoso Methodist and left her bag on a pew to go and urinate. The prosecution said on her return she could not find the bag containing=

the two phones, the cash, a Toyota Corolla car key and the purse. She, therefore, made a formal report to the police and someone, who saw Gertrude, pick the bag led the police to arrest her. The convict admitted the offence and one of the phones and the purse wer= e retrieved from her.
