20-year-old footballer before court for robbery

Cape Coast, Oct. 17, GNA - A 20-year-old footballer, Shaibu Wahab, has appeared before a circuit court in Cape Coast for allegedly robbing one Mrs Janet Abban of her GH¢150.00 at New Nkusukum, a suburb of Mankessim.

His plea was not taken and was remanded in prison custody to reappear on Wednesday, October 24.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Francis Ockom told the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Asare Nyarko, that at about 0130 hours on Wednesday, October 6, the accused together with two others, now at large, broke into the house of the complainant while she was asleep with her family.

He said the robbers, who were armed with guns and cutlasses, ordered the complainant and her family to lie face down and asked them to bring out all the monies in the house, amidst the firing of gun shots.

Chief Inspector Ockom said when the complainant told the robbers there was no money in the house, they ransacked the rooms and found GH¢150.00 under the bed.

He said when the robbers were leaving, the complainant held one of them who stabbed her in the left shoulder with a knife.

Chief Inspector Ockom said the complainant accompanied by her husband reported the matter to the Mankessim Police, where she was issued a medical form to seek treatment.

He said at about 1810 hours on that day the complainant's 12-year-old son spotted the accused person and raised the alarm, leading to his arrest.

Chief Inspector Ockom said investigations are on-going to arrest his two accomplices.

Counsel for the accused, Mr Harry Hayford however argued that the case was one of mistaken identity and that the child mistakenly pointed out someone who looked like one of the robbers.
