19-year-Old Fulani herdsboy kills colleague

A 19-year–old boy Umar Mahama Sambo has been remanded into prison custody by the Dawurampong Magistrate Court for allegedly hitting his colleague Abubakar Ali, 17, to death.

Prosecutor G/Sgt Emmanuel Agbefe told the court presided over by his lordship Mr. M.J Boamah that the accused, Omar Mahama Sambo and Abubakar Ali [deceased] are both herdsmen living at Gomoa Panfokrom in the Central region, and employed by the deceased’s father.

The prosecutor said on September 9, 2014 around 9pm, the deceased, Abubakari Ali, was sleeping on a mat when the accused Umar Sambo insisted that Abubakar Ali should get up for him to sleep.

This, the prosecutor said, degenerated into a misunderstanding and the deceased left the mat for the accused. According to the prosecutor, the next day Ali was moving his cattle for grazing when the accused confronted and accused him of insulting him the previous day, and threatened to penalize him.

The accused then drew his club and hit the deceased on the head, making him unconscious

Sensing danger, Umar Sambo drew a machete and threatened to kill anyone who tried to arrest him.

However, he was overpowered by members of the community and handed over to the police at Agona Swedru who after interrogation arraigned him before the court at Dawurampong, and charged him with the offence of committing murder.

The deceased, Abubakar Ali, was however rushed to the Agona Sweduru Government Hospital but was pronounced dead the following day.
