Kumasi, July 20, GNA - Two persons, Francis Abuduri Manyilla, 24, unemployed and Joe Amidu Abadwea, 18, butcher, have been sentenced to 15 years in jail each by the Kumasi High Court for robbery. The court, presided over by Mr Justice Kwadwo Ansah Pobih, sentenced them on their own plea of guilty. Mr Richard Osei Hwedie, a State Attorney, giving the facts of the case, said the complainant, a taxi driver was driving his cab around 2300 hours.

He said the accused persons stopped him at the Race Course area in Kumasi and requested him to convey them to the Ahensan suburb, which he complied.

On reaching the Omega Quarters Spot, they attacked him with knives and robbed him of 500,000 cedis cash and bolted. The state Attorney said on July 3, this year, the driver on his normal rounds was stopped by the same accused persons at the Race Course and requested that they should be taken to Ahensan and on their way the driver passed the Zongo police station and reported the case to the police. The police later retrieved a locally manufactured pistol and a knife from them. 20 July 06
