10 million cedis bail for fraud

Mankranso-Ashanti, April 26, GNA - John Oppong 49, a farmer at Dwenewoho near Mankranso in the Ahafo-Ano South district has been granted 10 million cedis bail by the Mankranso Magistrate's court for defrauding another farmer of 2.5 million cedis under the pretext of securing admission for her daughter at the Agogo Training College. Oppong pleaded guilty and would re-appear on May 2. Police Chief Inspector Abraham Adjei-Mensah told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that on January 23, this year, Oppong collected the money from Mr Tuse Akenlango, the complainant to purchase admission forms from the College and also assist Akenlango's daughter to gain admission. He said after receiving the money, Oppong went into hiding until March 16, this year when he was arrested at his hideout at the Mankranso market following a tip-off. The prosecution said after investigations, the accused was charged with the offence. 26 April 06
