Madam Minister, when will Kumasi have a truly international airport with a runway of least 3,000 meters? Kumasi now has a small internal airport with a runway of 1,900 meters and there are plans to extend it to 2,500 meters. This makes it a small internal airport for intercity travel within Ghana, not an international airport. A truly international airport needs a runway of least 3,000 meters so that the large aircraft such as the Boeing 747 can land directly from London, New York etc. Yet you describe Accra and Kumasi as a duopoly when Kumasi does not have an international airport.
Everybody knows that the second largest city in Ghana - Kumasi - needs an international airport but the NDC refused to build it and pretended there is no land for the airport when land has been earmarked for this project. The NPP is now in power but they take the Ashanti Region for granted because they know we will vote for them even if they don't do anything for us.
Despite all of this, I am confident that Kumasi will one day have a truly international airport.
