While any improved ties with another Nation could be a good thing, I strongly admonish our new Government to be very careful not to overindulge the Russians as to resurrect the inimical repercussions of Western obscured vengeance, reminiscent of the Cold War era.
My caution comes at a time when Russia under Putin seems to be exploring all means to undermine the ties of other Nations with the West, especially, America. The diplomatic highway is fraught with hidden snares these days, given who is in charge in the USA, and how the two countries seems to be parading up and down the fringes of increased hostilities.
One may reject this idea because President Trump of the USA is known to be an admirer of the Russian President and might have been helped by Putin to get elected in the USA.
Be as it may, Ghana ought to stay alert to avert any mistaken alliance with the Russians as a replacement of our traditional ties with the West.
If there is any one Nation that I could not overemphasize that Ghana should have ever-growing relationship with, it is Israel. And I am not suggesting this from any religious angle. I am doing so from very pragmatic and objective assessment of what Nations we could learn most from to firmly plant our developmental feet on the ground.
Besides, Israel has lately offered to assist us in any way possible. And we would be foolish not to enthusiastically grab her hand for mutual friendship and growth. Much of what we need in Ghana to build a solid grass-root economic foundation from which we can leap in bounds can be found in the Israeli miraculous success. Another Nation we still can learn from is Singapore, whose original plan of action to emerge as an Economic giant wasn't that much remote from Nkrumah's, except that Nkrumah was too much a target for Western sabotage that eventually crippled his progress, as he mistakenly buried his head in the armpit of the Soviet Union, despite being a leader of a Non-aligned Nation. This assertion does not in anyway diminish the difficulty Nkrumah was thrown into by his special circumstances, including devoting so much for the true emancipation of the African.
Ghana has accumulated enough experiences to drawn upon to play it safe and productively aggressive. We must only seek the best of both sides of the Globe. We don't need any ideological entanglements with any polarity. Our freedom must be used to the maximum benefit of the Ghanaian and African.
Long Live Ghana!!!

The relationship should have gone further. It has not because of the disinterest of the USSR beginning with Gobachov when it was decided to down grade USSR relations with Africa.. It was reflected in the downloading also of the status of the Patrick Lumumba University in all these
Ghana cannot force itself upon the Russian people. It takes two to tango, they say. Russia will have to be more open and take Africa seriously as friends if anything is to develop
