I wonder where the cost wld hv been if it were to be government funded project. This same project I believe wld hv cost the Ghanaian tax payer some $50 million if it were to be Government funded.

We are all against Galamsey as far as the environmental degradation is concern. Goldfields itself cannot stop the Galamsey Operators. I think you will recollect what happened in Obuasi Goldfields when they were trying to oust the Galamsey Operators, which lead to the death of one of their Snr. person when a driver ran him over whilst running away from the Galamseyers attack with guns.
Goldfieds in the past have tried unsuccessfully to fight galamsey but to no avail.
Fighting Galamsey in the whole Ghana, even by the Gov't, had been a nine days wonder. The only solution, is to get them the alternative jobs. The Galamseyers are combatants and it is not easy doing away with them without you having a repercussion in retaliation. So Goldfields being so wise, instead of fighting them, have giving a concession to the Galamseyers so that they can have a peaceful co-existance. By the way, it is not Goldfields duty to stop the Galamseyers, but the gov't. So if the Gov't is not stopping them, Goldfield will have truce with them in order to have peace with their business. After all they are in for business but not to fight crime.
