Before you use the snitt database as a sacrosanct source of the truth, check to ensure that the database is an accurate reflection of the reality on the ground. If the database has not captured accurately all those who qualify for compensation, you would have left a lot of people destitute through no fault of their own.
The aged, pensioners, widows and widowers, the less educated are particularly vulnerable.
Any such move, if the database is not audited for reliability, coukd make the Akuffo Addo led government very unpopular indeed. Thread cautiously.
My suggestion, give those who may be affcted because their details have not been accurately captured in the database some grace period to rectify any errors.
Continue paying them during this grace period until you are convinced beyond reasonable doubt that they are not entitled to the compensation.
Beware of unscrupulous finance staff might take this opportunity to commit payroll fraud.
They will try to slip in ghost names that don't qualify for compensation because they are claiming such payments.
This cleanup exercise should always be work in progress. New ghost names come up all the time.
There are mindsets that need to change. Ghanaians mostly think there should be paid for their qualifications rather than their work output.
That require a radical public sector reform.
Good luck in tackling this giant called public sector wage problem.
