Previous governments have failed to see the significance in getting the country to speak French until this announcement from this administration. The only way to undo the subversive division that has been perpetrated on the African continent by the strategically thinking colonialists is to play them at their own game, but it requires visionary leaders who realise this and are prepared to dismantle these pillars of disunity. In colonial times, large chunks of Africa were deliberately carved up in a way to promote very little communication amongst African countries, and wherever there was lack of communication you would find it's evil twin, cooperation, being absent. Does the Tower of Babel come to mind, anyone? We missed the opportunity to do so when Nkrumah, who was credited for his visionary thinking, took over the reigns of Ghana. Some historians will tell you that he was so consumed in his hatred for Houphouet Boigny, the then president of Ivory Coast, that he failed to see the significance of implementing this across Ghana. The current government should make this a priority in ensuring that each one of us is equipped with the necessary language skills to promote deep economic and social cohesiveness across Africa.
We shouldn't just stop there. In tandem with this strategy of reaching out to our brothers and sisters across Africa, Ghana must, without fail, and with the urgency that it deserves, adopt one of it's local languages as the official Ghanaian language. No ifs no buts. This is way way overdue, the time for debating is long past it's sleeping time. No other local language should be taught in our schools nor resources wasted on them except this official Ghanaian language. If you look across the world, all the developed countries have a local language as their official language. Ghana and other African nations must adopt the same strategy if it is to emerge from the chaos we find ourselves in. Now you know why we have fallen behind all these years!

French could be compulsory at the basic level but one local dialect should also be compulsory at that level. At the secondary level the student should elect to study a second local dialect. So on graduation the student should be proficient in English, French and two Ghanaian dialects.

Previous governments have failed to see the significance in getting the country to speak French until this announcement from this administration. The only way to undo the subversive division that has been perpetrated on the African continent by the strategically thinking colonialists is to play them at their own game, but it requires visionary leaders who realise this and are prepared to dismantle these pillars of disunity. In colonial times, large chunks of Africa were deliberately carved up in a way to promote very little communication amongst African countries, and wherever there was lack of communication you would find it's evil twin, cooperation, being absent. Does the Tower of Babel come to mind, anyone? We missed the opportunity to do so when Nkrumah, who was credited for his visionary thinking, took over the reigns of Ghana. Some historians will tell you that he was so consumed in his hatred for Houphouet Boigny, the then president of Ivory Coast, that he failed to see the significance of implementing this across Ghana. The current government should make this a priority in ensuring that each one of us is equipped with the necessary language skills to promote deep economic and social cohesiveness across Africa.
We shouldn't just stop there. In tandem with this strategy of reaching out to our brothers and sisters across Africa, Ghana must, without fail, and with the urgency that it deserves, adopt one of it's local languages as the official Ghanaian language. No ifs no buts. This is way way overdue, the time for debating is long past it's sleeping time. No other local language should be taught in our schools nor resources wasted on them except this official Ghanaian language. If you look across the world, all the developed countries have a local language as their official language. Ghana and other African nations must adopt the same strategy if it is to emerge from the chaos we find ourselves in. Now you know why we have fallen behind all these years!

Three, as I type now, I do not know any benefits am reaping from the French I learnt in basic school but if I had failed, maybe that allow would have stopped me from continuing my education to become who I wanted to be.
