HOW CAN A GA MAN BE COCOA MINISTER & AKYEM WOMAN BE FISHERIES MINISTER? IF WE'RE TALKING ABOUT GUINEA FOWLS OR COW HERDING, THEN AYARIGA CAN BRING HIS BAWKU EXPERIENCE. HE SHOULD LET THE COCOA FARMERS TALK ABOUT THEIR CROP.

We are so used to being slaves and that is why the politicians have also adopted it.

I am not surprised that Ivory Coast produces more cocoa than Ghana. If fertilisers are secretly sold to Ivorian farmers by a corrupt Agric Ministry Officials, leaving Ghanaian farmers destitute, then what do you expect?

I think a major factor in the Ivory Coast cocoa industry is how much of the farms are commercial farms owned by large scale commercial farmers. The area of land under cultivation for cocoa is the same , according to the minister designate. Ghanaian cocoa farms are small farms held by family farmers. The CI farms are largely held by large scale commercial farmers many of the being foreigners. This is because of the different land tenure systems in the two countries. While the system in the CI encourages foreigners with substantial capital to invest to cultivate farms, the same does not apply in Ghana. Large scale commercial farms hardly exist in Ghana and something should be done about the land tenure system. Ghana needs to have massive investment in cocoa growing, we cannot depend on govt to do this.

Dealing with the land issues in Agric in Ghana i sometimes wonder if the Aborigines Protection law was not more of a curse than a blessing to the nation. We have not demarcated our lands as a nation and land tenure security cannot be guaranteed. How do we expect even sharecropers or other investors to invest in the farms. Ghanains are notorios when it comes to partnerships and cooperatives as well. We adore one man show. We need to change our land title laws and attitudes.

HON AYARIGA HAS NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE COCOA SECTOR AND ITS HISTORY SO MUST KEEP MUM.
