For that reason, he wondered if the NPP had the moral right to accuse Mr John Mahama of using state resources to pay bribes and buy votes, when the outcome of its own polls was questionable".
Some of us have always known that the NPP strategy of labeling the President as corrupt was a strategy to hide their own massive corruption in their party. if there was ever a doubt, Chairman Wuntomi's aide has erased all that. Now we know NPP better.

This is a very laudable initiative by Nana worthy of emulation and plagiarism by the NDC. It makes absolute sense for import duties to be lifted to encourage industrialization. The current import duty regime is a shot in the foot. It discourages inward flows of vital resources necessary for kicking starting the industrial revolution in Ghana. It simply does not make sense that the current import duties are so punitive that it discourages Ghanaians in the diaspora from investing in Ghana.
I say Nana Addo should got farther in his drive by actually awarding grants to those who invest and employ up to hundreds Ghanaians and remain in business for 4 years. The grant will be given at the end of the 4th year. 4 years because that is the duration of a democratically elected government.
Nana Addo must also empower tax collecting institution to embark on a public education campaign so Ghanaians at home and abroad become aware of these incentives. Most of the import exemptions are usually buried in small print making it difficult for Ghanaians to take advantage of them.
Also, where materials are either not produced in Ghana or are produced at a higher cost, import duty should be reduced or eliminated to encourage import and discourage local production. We are better off engaging in industries where we are able to produce for cheap compared with importing. We can leave such materials to countries which are able to produce those materials cheaper than can be produced locally. That makes economic sense. Protectionism does not work.
I hear the Cement companies are calling for an increase in import taxes on cement to discourage import. That is so misplaced. Why should the market be protected for the inefficient?
Let's industrialise in areas we are strong at and let other countries produce where they are strong at. It is unsustainable to protect a market for an inefficient producer.
We argue that we need to collect these import taxes to help government expenditure but how much of these taxes end up in government coffers?
Most of it is leaked anyway. And that is the more reason why these taxes should be removed altogether.

Reduce the price of petroleum products; They rather increase the price fro the old 6 cedis 40 pesewas to the old 30 cedis with the first 6 months. - 3. Develop the Zongos with high-rise buildings; They neglected the Zongos, and added salt to injury by denigrating the Hajj process. - 4. Build railway line from Takoradi to Wa in the Upper West region. Not a single, or even a meter of railway line was built on the Western corridor in spite of the 750 million euro bond they took with the promise of using a substantial part for that project. These are blatant LIARS who have specialized in hoodwinking unsuspecting innocent citizens with mouth watering promises, knowing very well that they do not mean it. ENOUGH OF THESE HALUCINATING LYING GOONS!!!

Nana Addo will remove import duties on raw materials, reduce other taxes including the price of petroleum products, restore trainee nurses and teachers allowances (meanwhile number of teacher trainees has increased over 100 percent, introduce real free SHS for all day and boarding students, build 216 factories that are large to employ the ever increasing number of students coming out of school, establish northern development and zongo funds, and several other freebies that he has been going round and promising. He has forgotten that Ghana is not a HIPC, but a lower middle income country that does not qualify for concessionary loans anymore, and that we also have to service our debts, including the 2007 750 million dollar euro bond due in 2007. Unlike the Kuffuor era when the Dutch government paid for the 400,000 pupils on the School Feeding Programme, we now have to pay for the now over 2 million pupils on the scheme from the national budget. Annual hospital utilization of the NHIS has increased from the 2008 figure of about 8 million to the current 29 million which has to be paid for. He must have forgotten that recurrent expenditure (salaries and allowances) has increased fro the 2008 figure of about 3 billion cedis to now more than 10 billion cedis. Nana must tell Ghanaians how he will reduce the income to government, take on more burden of freebies, and yet fulfill all the statutory obligations of government. what about investments in Health, Education, roads, and what have you.

If you abolish import duty on raw materials from Togo or CDI, who will buy the sugar cane produced in Ghana ,which would be automatically more expensive? Nana should be more specific. You cannot allow the importation of all raw materials, duty free. Ghanaian producers could suffer.
