How can farmers be persuaded to get into rice produce and yet no contingency plan for harvesting. I doubt if there is a de-stoner, mill, polisher and bagging to help them compete with imports. 1000 ha is not a small job. Of all food and arable crops grown, rice is the toughest. Ghana imports roughly 80% of rice per annum and these people have served their nations ever so well to be let down. If there are no kick-backs, this government is not interested. Wake up Mahama government, others are doing good for their country even here in Africa.

The Japanese small rice harvesters tend to be easy to manouver, work well on smaller farms and easier to maintain. With change of implement, the same machine could be used to cultivate rice. Of course, the farmers need to work in co-operatives to get the most out such machinery. There are a lot of simple tools farmers can be helped to acquire. The days of cutlass and hoes must come to an end!!!
