Much as I agree with you that coal is not what we need, I will ask you a simple question. Dr Wereko-Brobby holds the magnificent title of Ph.D in solar science. What has he done for the advancement of solar energy in Ghana? Zilch.
His best contribution was to sit in the plush offices of VRA and manage the Hydro-Dam Nkrumah built in 1966.The very project his own kinsmen labelled as one of Nkruamah"s "vanity projects".To cap it all, instead of lobbying the then Kuffour"s govt for money to improve upon our solar capabilities, he used the "grand sum" of 20 million dollars to celebrate Ghana@50 buying luxurious cars for foreign didnitaries. Meanwhile, in Uganda, students at Makerere University have developed a prototype solar bus. Can you see the hopelessness of the so-called Ph.D holders in Ghana?. Nothing pisses me off so much when I hear Kwame Sefa Kai calling Wereko-Brobby, energy expert on Ghana Radio. Expert in what?

Hey Dr Acquah, I may not be an advocate for coal powered energy either, but the persistent call for solar is not all that simple as you think. Clearly, it is not only about abundance of sunshine but primarily, the storage of the energy for use at night on a large scale.
Battery technology for this purpose is still in developmental stages that is one of the many reasons solar deployment has been dragging for so long. There is also the low-efficiency factor which tends to blow out the initial cost of deployment; otherwise who will not go for free conversion of sunshine to electricity.
