The Cocoa Board should listen very carefully to what Mr. Iddi is saying, and act on it positively. I am not really sure how the Shea trees are managed at the moment, but when I lived in the North, Shea Trees were not farmed and managed like Cocoa is. Most Shea Trees were wildly scattered around the open forests. I am hoping there are real Shea Nut farms that are managed like the Cocoa farms are. Ghanaian farmers are one of the very best in the world, that is the reason why Corporate farming is not practised in Ghana especially where it comes to Cocoa. Cocobod should hand over the management to the Shea farmers, and be given the guidance, and the assistance that they might need. Long live Ghana.

If your basic argument is to boost intentioned growing of Shea trees, then what would the creation of a new bureaucracy for Shea do? Government does not grow cocoa, the people who grow them are small scale farmers who invest their time, labour and resources in it. They do not leave it to the wild to grow haphazardly and just come to the bush to collect them like Shea farmers do. Duplication in and of itself is not better but a waste of resources and avenue for corruption as we saw with SADA and GHEEDA etc. By your own claims the trees just grow in the wild and people will just go and collect them. Well may be the so-called 600,000 people engaged in it should begin by actually acquiring lands, planting the Shea seedlings and caring for them. We can't just throw money after the wind to enrich very corrupt bureaucrats. The heavy lifting should begin from actually holding land and planting the trees. You can do just that within the existing arrangement within COCOBOD without creating a Sheabod.

Bad enough that Cocobod is hanging on the neck of the poor Cocoa farmers like a giant leech. ANYTHING GOG has a hand in, is a shining example of inefficiency and proliferating corruption !
