ACEP should be careful cause our mining sector is already crippling. Ghana was the first country to go when it came to gold mining and exploration but its not more like that due to the fact that we have taxed them to much and demand from the companies certain things like rural development. Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and even Mali have attract more investment during the last 2-3 years then Ghana. Australia did the same mistake way back and they still fell the pain of it. It is now after more then 10 years that their industry is coming slowly back on the feet.
The funny thing is that most of these "experts" in ACEP or government don't have a real clue about the mining industry. Nobody has a professional background of more then 10 years in the industry on a corporate level. So these people shouldn't come and talk cause they don't know jack.

Companies decide to invest in a country when the circumstances to invest are good. How good they are is depending on how the world market price is, what the extraction costs, labor costs and all other costs together are.
The moment Ghana steps out of line in comparison with the rest of the producing countries all these mining companies will move to another country. The moment all the producing countries want a bigger cut and over do it, consumers can decide that gold is to expensive and by less or no gold. So Ghana and many others are maneuvering on a fine balanced economic line and when Ghana falls out we could loose the whole industry, is that what we want ?
Or do we prefer a haevely polluting infested with illegal mining small scale mining industry for Ghanaian only ? Please don't forget Ghana is part of the world and a very competitive one, fight the economic principles and we will fall out for sure, no matter how much unexplored gold we have.

The most glaring ineptitude of this NDC administration is their inability or unwillingness to properly manage the small scale mining sector. Forget Gitmo detainees, corruption, dumsor etc, the most worrying and disturbing crises facing Ghana now is illegal gold mining/galamsey and its long term ill effects on the country. Ghana is sitting on an ecological and environmental time bomb due to the extensive damage caused by small scale miners on our rivers, streams, forest reserves and agriculture. What is most shocking is the fact that foreigners like Chinese, Indians, Nigerians amongst others are the key players in this horrible daylight raping of Ghana and our resources. From Amankyim to Jacobu, Amponyasi to Dunkwa, Wassa Amenfi to Twifo Praso the destruction goes on unabated. Major rivers like Pra, Offin, Ankobra and Oda have been diverted, dredged, polluted and reduced to browned mud pits, whilst major forest reserves and cocoa plantations have been excavated, bulldozzed and utterly destroyed. All of this is happening whilst the regulatory institutions like Environmental protection Agency, minerals commision, forestry commission, immigration, MMDA's have largely ignored their mandated duties and in effect assisted in the wanton pillage and destruction if our dear country's natural resources and wealth.
