Injecting or basting of chicken mostly happens in fillet and is in some European and American countries a common used practice.
Basting or injecting happens directly in fillets and not before the fillets are separated from the carcass.
Ghana hardly consumes chicken fillets!
Chicken legs (or wrongfully called thighs) are very difficult to bast because of the bone content.
Ghanaian chicken import are mostly: chicken legs and chicken backs and some chicken necks.
All parts who are difficult to inject.
The only European country, The United Kingdom where basting is a common thing is hardly exporting to Ghana.
The United States are exporting to Ghana but I have never seen any produced in USA injected chicken products. The last large exporter to Ghana is Brazil and in Brazil basting is not popular.
I think Minister (obviously an amateur in poultry processing)is mistaken the added water of 30% with the water content during the "wet slaughtering" process which attracts about 3% water in the final product, as compared to the "dry slaughtering" process which hardly attracts any extra water.
Please minister do your homework or stop your propaganda!

Imports have never hurt any country, if your exports are in balance with your imports. So produce in Ghana in which we are able to produce competitive and import in which we are not. If we keep on pushing producing in Ghana in what we are not competitive Ghanaian farmers cant win from imported products and if we block imports Ghanaian consumers will end up paying much more for lots of agricultural products.
Is that what our minister wants ? Higher consumer prices to support farmers ?
