So the designers never thought that for an essential equipment like this compressor, they needed an auxiliary compressor installed just in case the main one broke down or when time was up for a scheduled maintenance?

That's how plants are supposed to be designed and built.
Essential equipment always should have an additional supporting member or two for just maintenance purpose if nothing else.

How could you build such an infrastructure without a by pass? There should be redundancy in the System so You Need not shutdown during maintenance!!!!! Shame on you GH leaders. Square pegs
