I love the idea of cashless transaction but GhIPSS isnt doing enough about the POS. why do businesses not using POS Terminals? this is what I expect GhIPSS to find out and make businesses love to have the POS.

i've been coming to Ghana since 2001 and America atm cards have long worked at major banks( Barclays,ecobank,Standard charter) and Even Steers in OSu had pos before torn down....So why was system re-invented???? is it more secure with the chip in card on european standard??? Most USA cards still have no chip only the magnetic tape...every major supermarket,pharmacy chain and now even whores have credit card machines!!

ATM credit/debit card system has at its backend a network system which has to be functional and operational 24/7. This can only be true when there is continued uninterrupted supply of electricity even when there are backup battery system at various substations.
So while it makes business sense to encourage use of ATM debit/credit cards (after all there are institutions that benefit from card processing which affect merchants who are registered participants) it is a disservice to consumers whose accounts are eventually nickel and dimed to death. My own experiences with Ghana ATM have not been pleasant to write home about. So the verification and authorization processes involved with use of ATM debit/credit cards at merchant transactions will suffer the same fate of the bottleneck at ATM machines. We need continued supply of power to drive industry in Ghana and business must not sacrifice consumers at the alter without ensuring a reliable and robust system backbone

banks love this shit because when you overdraw the account the gonna charge you overdraw fee and bounce all check...so $5 purchase might cost you $300 in fees...Plus some place like pharmacys are robbed of drugs or cigarettes ... read full comment
