I can understand it when politicians go about telling poor villagers that depreciation is good because when their relatives send them euros or dollars they get a lot of cedis now. However, it is the epitome of incompetence and madness when a so-called technocrat suggests that depreciation is good because it allowed government to increase cocoa prices by 62%. Hellooooo! Econs 101 - what does the 62% amount to after the new price is ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION? No wonder this economy is in shambles - it's led by mediocre politicians with professional titles.

If the depreciation of the cedi is good, why then the government is fighting hard to appreciate it's value. These guys in power are all trash.

Our sovereign loans are in foreign currency.
Our imports far exceed out exports, and they are in foreign currency.
How then can the DG make such an ignorant statement?

You borrow in hard currency and come and purchase a commodity in higher price and you are calling this good for the country? WOW. My illiterate late mother- a trader of blessed memory would not go and borrow money from the Bank and come and buy a commodity at an exorbitant price. The best she would do was to borrow money and buy commodities when they are abundant in supply and cheap and sells for a profit. You see this was an illiterate with sensible money management. Not surprise at all as the leader is worse than the subordinates. E&OE.
