If you think Greenhouses are only suitable for Cold Climates you are greatly mistaken. I am not sure you have any knowledge in Agriculture or its allied Academic and Scientific Fields. But I would like to inform you that temperatures in Ghana do still fluctuate wildly in some areas, and crops needing a stable temperature all year round may need some modification of their micro-environment to thrive and produce well.
Besides, in areas where the soils may be very suitable for a particular crop but the temperatures may be too high, causing drastic desiccation, some Greenhouse environment to mitigate the outside temperature would be economically more beneficial.
FYI, Israel offers most resourceful site for learning about such Greenhouse application. The Greenhouse system does not necessarily mean enclosing the whole acreage of farming. It could be just around the crops. Thus, crops are lined up, often mechanically, for easy maintenance, like fertilizing and watering and temperature modification. Remember, Much of Israel is under warm/hot desert conditions, most of the year.
Long Live Ghana!!!

Sorry for discovering your response and question on Pest Control a little late. But I hope you come back on here to find my brief response.
Well, Israel is also among the leading Nations in Pest Control, especially when it comes to multi-variant environmental considerations. I do not want to sound like simply promoting Israel's accomplishments which are numerous and expands over multiple disciplines and human endeavor. However, I am just presenting facts that that Nation provides for the general good of the World.
So, on Pest Control, I would like to briefly inform you that Israel has developed many effective, safe and environmental-friendly Pest Control Technologies and Pesticides.
For example, she has developed biological Pest Control methods that do not involve chemicals. There are also Fungicides that are applied to coat the leaves of crops to keep off the pests but do not harm the leaves or interfere in the functions of the leaves in the growth of the Crop.
Israel's Agro-Pest Controls include methods of applying the Pesticides along with the Irrigation suitable for the crop. For example, Pesticides could be injected into the Plastic Tunneling Irrigation System to keep its effectiveness local to the micro-environment. That allows the Plants to benefit at maximum from the application.
Just so you know, there are different levels of Technology that can be found in Irrigation, for instance. They range from low to very high, depending on how much computerized and automated they may be.
I hope that helps.
I wish Ghana would intensify its bi-lateral interactions with Israel to enable our Farmers have easier access to their Technology which they are ready to share with all the World.
I remember our first Republic, under Nkrumah, established such a relationship with Israel where we used to send a number of Agric Students to pursue Agric Engineering in that Country. Nkrumah had such a strong bonding with Ben Gurion, the first Israeli Prime Minister, that Mr. Gurion even donated a Plane to Nkrumah. It was via that kind of Technological exchange between Israel and Ghana that drove our massive Irrigation project in the Northern Regions.
Sadly, we have played inimical politics with such Projects in Ghana to ruin the Irrigation Facilities, among other projects, in Ghana.
Long Live Ghana!!!

It is great News that the factory is up and running. But I wish to know what went into the location of the Factory in Techiman.
Surely, Techiman is a huge magnet for business but Tomato production is more associated with Akomadan or Derma which are much lesser Towns in close proximity to Techiman. Techiman may well be the best location given that it could be more easily reached by the Tomato producers from all the known areas of production around the City.
However, many have long been caressing the idea that such a Factory would be located right where the production is concentrated, both to boost productivity by inspiring the Farmers and to re-direct many consequential economic benefits, like employment, to the locals from the production centers.
I hope the decision to cite the Tomato Factory in Techiman, which has long deserved similar Manufacturing plants, by the way, was not largely driven by sheer politics.
Besides, much also depends on who owns the Factory. If the owner is a private Entrepreneur, who might hail from Techiman, it could induce the location choice.
What I am driving at is alerting the incumbent Government to move away from using politics to cite Manufacturing Plants to appease its voter-base, and, instead, stay close to using strong economic imperatives to determine the best locations for such Plants.
Long Live Ghana!!!
