This is long overdue, good finance minister for introducing this system of tax collecting. This shows that Ghana is heading somewhere. Mr president do you best to minimise corruption in the Ghanaian society. Remain blessed.

This is just only the first step. You need to educate, educate, and educate the informal sector in order to increase the tax base. Building a system with the same number of tax payers will not amount to any increase in revenues for the Government. What is needed is to expand the tax base by bringing on board more businesses or companies into the tax system.
Tax payers, especially those in the informal sector, must know the incentives of paying taxes such as filing of tax returns at the end of the year so they can receive tax refunds if they have over-paid their taxes and also how payment of taxes will enhance their livelihoods especially when they retire and receive social security benefits until they die.
The Government must also find a way to decentralized tax administration in the country. Allow the Regions to assess certain taxes on individuals and business so they can use it for implementation of projects that benefit the communities where the tax payers live. This way, tax payers can see the immediate and direct benefits of the their tax contributions.
