The MP is making a very good argument. The Takoradi port must be protected for its sustainability.
This attitude of of neglect the old and focus on new is what is killing Ghana.

Way to go where, mate? These NPP members never ceased to amaze me. The Takoradi port is currently undergoing a massive transformation so as bigger vessel can bathe there and with our growing oil & gas in mind, that seems a presentable thing to do. So then, what are they complaining about in here? Lonrho Ports Ghana Ltd (Lonrho) is proposing to develop an Exclusive Deepwater Petroleum and Hydrocarbon Logistics Base Port to provide support services for the offshore oil and gas developments in Ghana (including the Jubilee Field) as well as for other countries in the region. It is envisaged that the proposed project will become the economic centre for the oil industry creating local employment and economic stimulus.
The project will include various services for the oil and gas industry including rig repair, spool yard, waste management and warehouse, supply facilities and an airstrip. Therefore, the Government of Ghana is only charged to provide the land for the development and Lonrho will finance and develop the project as a joint venture with the Government. The Government of Ghana is to secure a 2000 acres parcel of land located to the west of Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana near the communities of Atuabo, Anorkyi and Asemdasuazo. Now then, why would a governing that is seriously expanding Takoradi go ahead with this deal, which is obviously not so far away from Takoradi port? Answer: both are offering different service to one another. That, mate, is the nature of the deal, full stop.

Atuabo port does not deserve any special concession. They should compete with all other ports in the country. That will raise the standards in the industry.

This time round the picture is becoming clear and I think the public need a more thorough education on this issue. The lawmakers have the right to protect the national interest but my question has been, " why wait until after parliamentary approval of the agreement but come out to express your disapproval? The simple answer may be that most of the MPs don't either attend parliament regularly or do not pay attention when issues are brought before the house.Hopefully we have the Judicial arm of state as the last resort in this case. I however support the deletion of the " exclusive clause " from the agreement.

Geez, who signed this deal? Looks like these people or person didn't read through or think through before signing it.

You people are sick, at one time Ghana can not manage an Airline and should be giving to private and at another time Harbour operating should be giving to Ghana to operate
