The Bank of Ghana (BOG) has no Eastern Regional headoffice. The BOG must ask for land from the King of Akyem (Okyehene) to construct this building. I don´t believe that the BOG has accurate data of the economic activity in the at least 12 Akyem districts which make up more than half the population on the region. The GDP and GNI of these Akyem districts are very high. They stem from:
Gold mining
Diamond mining
Cocoa
Oil Palm (the largest in West Africa)
Timber
Software development
etc
The money supply and capital in the at least 12 Akyem districts are wholly inadequate. BOG must remove impediments to the setting up of rural banks in these districts and encourage ADB and GCB to open branches in these districts.
The government must further ensure that wholly owned Ghanaian banks, including rural banks, get at least 80% of the banking revenue.

Oh what a shame ''carrying coal to New Castle''So why can't we use the foreign exchange to be spent to embark on massive tree planting exercise to grow our own timber? Do our Ministers brainstorm with others at all?

Another setback that could have been avoided, but no. No laid down plans be our governments to bring back these forests after logging them off.
One of the holidays in the could be used as a re-afforestation day when communities would go out and plant these trees. DCE or leaders of each community could organise and supervise these events. Too many holidays in the country.

THE NORTHERNERS HAVE EATEN THE MONEY TO BE USED IN PLANTING THOSE TREES.
Therefore, your suggestion could have sealed a huge deal for Ghana.
But unfortunately, our politicians do not reason, think, strategise and plan like those of un in diaspora.
WHAT THEY WANT IS MONEY IN THEIR POCKET,AND BUSINESS AS USUAL.
I quite remember,as a student in the secondary school,we learned that GHANA WAS THE THIRD LUMBER PRODUCER IN THE WORLD.
Look at what our politicians have done to us now.
THIS IS A VERY SAD DAY FOR ME.

This is one of the irrelevant ever heard. why on earth would Ghana import Timber? this is a waste of foriegn exchange. Why cant ghanaians plant back when the cut these threes? this is sicky. I think this misister, had to reconsider her statement. This measures, must not be encouraged. How can we import Cars which is tipical foriegn base, and import threes (timber) also? are these ghanaians representatives (parliamentarians), and their leaders normal?
How can this crazy bill be passed in our house? This shows how Africa and the Black man shall never survive. Why because they made wrong desisions.

GHANA EXPORTS TIMBER TO THE EU,BUT GOING TO IMPORT FROM THE CAMEROONS AND GUYANA SOON.
If our timber volume is not up to the demands of the lumber industry and therefore there is the need to import some from these two countries, why exporting some to the EU?
Who are our economic planners who are advising us to take such venture?
Does Ghana still plants trees?
Was the tree planting project successful?
If not,why?
I THINK,THE GOVERNMENT HAS FAILED GHANA IN LOTS OF SPHERES,BECAUSE OF NEGLIGENCE,IRRESPONSIBILITIES,UNCARING ATTITUDE AND UNPATRIOTISM.
Our ECONOMY is not doing fine because of fools, who do not use their brains ruling.
I DON'T GET THIS.

Ghana wants to import everything. Ghana exports timber. Why is it importing timber? Can somebody tell me the price differences when custom duty is factored in? This is a drain on our financial resources. Even at Akyem near Accra timber is rotting and being burnt into ashes. Ghanaian officials think of areas they can make money for their selfish ends. The Gov't should not grant this. How can Ghana talks about exchange issues, payment deficits and depletion of Foreign reserves and continue to import what they even have in abundance?
