  The relentless scrutiny and the NPP's disagreement with the government to the acquisition of the Chinese loan - part of which is earmarked for the construction of the gas project - since it was sought in 2010 has contributed to delaying its completion and, by extension, hindered our economic and development progress. The problem, of course, is alternative funding. Here, the NPP and its collaborators have not put that forward but, indicated, unwittingly, to hand it to a foreign company to build and charge the nation as and when the gas is used. In such a situation, gas prices and availability will be at the mercy of the owners. It can be manipulated, either for political reason or for maximisation of profit, or both.
