I do agree that SSSS is not the sole reason for our economic owes...but it DOES Have a key part to play. Corruption, budget mismanagement and SSSS are key drivers in the current crisis.

SSSS takes over 70% of the budget. What successful country in the world spends sooo much just on salaries of their government employees???? In the US, it's under 10%, 12.8% if you include the military !
If you are spending all your budget on salaries, you need to overspend just to keep up with maintenance of infrastructure, fulfilling payments on already signed development projects, etc, etc. The government did a poor job of implementing SSSS, not knowing its impact on the budget. Also, it's not able to manage it's spending levels. The big judgement debt cases a significant drain on precious resources.
Bottom line...How it was implemented without proper oversight is a key driver in Ghana's current budget woes.

Exactly 7 years today I changed some pounds at Accra at the rate of 1.7375 to a pound. I could fill my 3litre Toyota Hilux with under 50 cedis. I came back from Ghana only 2 weeks ago and I tell you what,the country is gone is turned upside down by the ferocious porchers. For the same vehicle, I had to spend 180 cedis to get it filled up, even though oil has been discovered and drilling has started with some oil income being realized.With all that we hear about the economy of Ghana from so our so called 'Learned Professionals' Seth Tekpe and his team of economics how come that in only a metter of 5 to 6 years the cedi exchange rate has risen so high that as it was the case, we would have to carry our monies in sacks whenever we go to Ghana to change some few pounds? I suggest we all Ghanaians, no matter where you may be hiding, have got a role to play in the resurection of our beloved cedi.Let's all go to Ghana to use just our fingers, not weapons of mass destruction to replace the good for nothing government come December 2016. Ghana need a mass social revolution without arms to change the government. The so call "better Ghana agenda" is not working. Common sense must tell us that if the government strategies are not working economically or socially, then, the gov`t must give way to another party with different methods of approach to revitailize the economy and stop the falling currency. But in the case of Ghana greed and selfishness will not allow for a change eventhough they in power know very well they cannot fix the problem. When are we gonna learn to give up power if we cannot find solutions to problems facing the country. It is time for a massive wake up call for all ghanaians to call for a change before things get out of control.

When I first came to the D. R. Congo in 2007,
the exchange rate was 350 Fcs to a dollar. Today, it is 900Fcs to one dollar, MORE THAN 100%. It is an African problem, not Ghana alone.
