this page is for serious minded persons and not for morons. The issues raised here portend a very serious crisis if not well managed and it requires persons of brains to think through these challenges and for some immediate solutions to be undertaken. therefore I find it tragic for persons who have access to the net and who should make sensible contributions just being stupidly partisan and in the process trivialising serious issues. This so called Iron Lady is so clad in iron bestiality that it is difficult for her to allow her brains to work and contribute to this issue which is of national concern.
indeed the global warming phenomenon is here with us and with the upper courses of the river drying up as a result of farming activities and general desertification, these challenges are to be expected. I am not even sure that the level of the water reflects the expected volume of water in the dam as there would have been siltations which would have padded the base of the water. I suggest that we take to serious afforestation along the tributaries of the volta and to also reduce the human activities along the dam. That done we would be able to conserve a lot of water. I also suggest we limit the over production of electricity from the dam during the peak hours so that we do not overdraw water to turn the turbines. There is one interesting thing happening here. check the postings on Akufo Addo having appointed Jake and Sir John. Over 90 postings on an obviously useless publication; but this is Ghana for us. Getting interested in things that in no way do us any good. How sad!!!!!!!

YAW!!! You have said it all! How many of you could recall I stated that so long as those generator companies are in existence, the power crisis will never be over! Please how many could remember I mentioned it! They will always find flimsy but "serious" excuses to sell generators.
This issue started with Jerry Rawlings. When the NPP came to power, being business minded goons, they continued with it. Please note; how many NPP politicians have genuinely blasted the NDC over this power crisis. NONE! Because they are all in it. You only hear the NPP truck pushers, taxi drivers, market women, etc who genuinely complain just because they don't know what is going on up there.
Why would Anointed Electricals spring up all of a sudden if they have no prior knowledge of some fake crisis.

If Akosombo dam was a woman, she would have stopped giving birth by now, especially where we don't maintain it well for it to produce to its full capacity.

Just passing by, the NPP signed a very bogus deal, which gave out all the crude to be exported, and that not a drop of the oil will find it's way to TOR! That's why they want to collapse it. At the end of the day, "no TOR, no crude refinery." Do you get the picture? The NDC could not touch it because they are also chopping from it! I can tell you with all seriousness that no party's flagbearer, upon assuming office can ever touch it. That's what is happening to South Sudan. The Chinese gave the South Sudan a not so bad deal. The vagabond vice of Salva Kir, is now in bed with western oil magnates. That's the secret I'm letting out with the civil war in South Sudan. The same thing can happen here if let's say Paa Kwesi Ndoum touches it. NPP, NDC? All hopeless!!

If they can not do that then I can say its a group of bad guys confusing the peoples with their ideological colonialism so that they can continue to chop Ghana really big. People watch out!!!!

Solar energy should be the main driver of our energy sufficiency. To be so close to the equator and not drive the utmost benefit from the freely available solar energy to address our energy needs is mind boggling. This is one area where technology transfer and the setting up of manufacturing plants to produce solar panels and incentivizing electrical and solar engineers as well as entrepreneurs to go into large scale production would benefit not just the country but the whole sub-region. Local sources of raw materials, research and development to manufacture photovoltaic cells that traps more sunlight using less surface area per panel and thereby increasing efficiency should drive innovation. This is where the synergies between academia-R&D-industry-entrepreneurship comes to play to create sustainable jobs of the future underpinned by science and technology.
Wind energy is one other area, where policy formulation and drive of gov't, together with incentives should lead to the establishment of manufacturing industries to produce the wind turbines to generate the needed capacity to feed into the electricity grid.
Increasingly, in the short to medium term, the importance and the urgency of the gas infrastructure project coming on stream to address the shortfall from the West Africa gas pipeline and also to create additional capacity from the identified deposits should lead to further improvement in our overall energy needs. In this regard, there's the need for efficient and effective prioritization of resource mobilization and allocation to address the gas project within the next 3 to 6 months. This is something that can be done if one averts his/her mind to the fact that, in the last 3 months of 2012, over $4billion dollars was spent without meeting our capital expenditure requirements. The need for energy conservation can also not be overemphasized. The use of energy efficient bulbs should be encouraged on a wide scale, and in this regard, tax breaks should be given to local indigenous entrepreneurs to stimulate manufacturing of these bulbs and if they would have to be imported then special provisions would have to made with respect to taxes, to encourage it's wide use. There should be a massive retooling of our electrical generation equipment for modern alternatives which are energy efficient. Energy star rated appliances which meets gold standards of energy efficiency should be our minimum benchmark for consumer items.
There should be massive re-afforestation and greening of the country to address the issue of desertification and the approach of the Sahelian environment by gov't liaising with the appropriate authorities such as the Forestry Commission, FORIG, Academia, NGO's, ITTO, to promote research into fire resistant and drought resistant species of trees for planting in forest depleted areas, prevention of logging in forest reserves by resourcing of the relevant bodies to check illegal lumbering, protection of watersheds which should be of utmost priority in the short term and the roping in all the stakeholders as well as the citizenry to ensure ownership of the measures to ensure success and thus, engendering value for money unlike the current situation of the SADA paradox which has turned out to be a monumental failure steeped in mismanagement and financial malfeasance and sleaze.
