Volta Region: Oil Discovery Re-ignites Nkwanta Boundary War
The recent claim of oil discovery at a hamlet called Jumbo in the Volta region has re-ignited an age-old boundary dispute between two adjoining districts-Nkwanta North and Nkwanta South.
While Nkwanta North MP Bless Oti insisted in an interview with XYZ News that the find was within his Constituency, the District Chief Executive of Nkwanta South Nikab Joseph has in a separate interview told XYZ News the find is within his District and not in Nkwanta North.
“Jumbo by the Legislative Instrument is under Nkwanta South but for a long time we have been trying to resolve [the boundary] issue”, he said.
Nikab Joseph however said he doubted the oil find could fester the age-old boundary dispute between the two districts.
“We are of one ethnic origin, we come from one ancestry and we even say that [the find] might even help settle the boundary issue which has for long disenfranchised some of them who actually want to belong to one side or the other”, adding: “I know the discovery of oil is rather a blessing”.
Nkwanta North MP Bless Oti admitted to XYZ News that the site of the discovery falls directly in-between the two Districts but however added that: “The people around the area vote under Nkwanta North not Nkwanta south”.
The Discovery was made on Friday as a well was being dug in the home of a woman.
Hordes of anxious Residents thronged the site of the find as news of the discovery quickly spread throughout the village.
Some residents rushed there with jerry cans and gallons to fetch samples of the crude oil. Soldiers were called to the scene to cordon off the site.
A team from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation has been sent to the site of the find to ascertain if the dark liquid substance is indeed crude oil.

I am sure most of us in this forum have heard about RISK ASSESSMENT.
The Ghanaian doesn't know about it and if he does, refuses to APPLY it.
I have identified a RISK; (notwithstanding that identifiable Risk, should we as a Country accept to store water for our households in Ghana in storage tanks perpetually?)
and the Risk is not only that those tanks can be receptacles for Bacteria growth BUT more importantly a SAFETY & SECURITY RISK to some.
I have made payment to the ABOKOBI (Ga East Constituency) GHANA WATER BOARD about a month ago to have water installed in a property.
With the Ghanaian mentality that we have, I am being made to feel that, it is "wrong" for the PAYOR to make enquiries about progress on the issue.
THE Offical in question is on
0207 556 757 ( I will withhold his name for now)
I have sworn that I WILL MAKE THIS ISSUE PUBLIC TILL HE OR HIS BOSSES (who probably are not aware of this) rescind that decision as HE is a DETRACTOR of PROGRESS and a TRAITOR WHO HAS LOST HIS AFRICAN VALUES & WOULD CONNIVE WITH ALIENS TO KILL THEIR FELLOW MAN.
Until I hear favourably from
THE Ga-East (ABOKOBI, off the Aburi Road) Water Board regarding my instalation; I would continue to publish it on the INTERNET OR TAKE THE MATTER UP with the MP of the area, up to the Highest level to seek redress. I AM ALSO WAITING FOR A LIBEL SUIT so that the case can be highlighted.
They expect ME to go and purchase water from some filthy water contractors at exorbitant price. can you imagine that?
DON'T TELL ME THAT IS WHAT EVERYONE DOES, IT IS WRONG!!!! let us effect change for the better in our society

For as far as Ghanaians are fully aware, the Greater Accra region has some deposit, as well as the Volta region, that has a much larger deposit. Maybe the Eastern region due to it´s geographical position. Please Dr. come again! Offshore and inshore.Thanks.

DOES ONE NOTICE UNBURIED WATER PIPES ALL OVER THE PLACE? IF YOU ARE GOING TO DISTRIBUTE GAS THE SAME WAY YOU DISTRIBUTE WATER, YOU WILL HAVE A WHOLE TOWN RASED TO THE GROUNG. JUST AS WE HAVE RULES FOR DRIVING, WE HAVE CODES ALSO FOR UTILITIES. THE PROBLEM IS NO ENFORCEMENT. NOW THAT WE HAVE GAS BEING DREAMED ABOUT, WE ALSO MUST HAVE GAS FITTERS WHO WOULD HAVE CODES TO FOLLOW. YOU HAVE PEOPLE INSTALLING AND LAYING WATER PIPES WHO SHOULD NOT BUT DUE TO LACK OF ENFORCEMENT, YOU WILL FIND DISTRIBUTION PIPES EXPOSED ALL OVER THE PLACE. THESE ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES CONTRIBUTE TO HAVING WATER BORNE DISEASES. CODES AND REGULATIONS ARE KEYS TO SAFETY IN USAGE OF THESE UTILITIES, BUT MUST BE ENFORCED.

The good doctor ought to act like an intellectual and stop the used car sales tactics. We know or should know from the Western region oil and gas fields that under National government of Kufour the nation was screwed royally by the EO group, the exploration outfit and by Kufours inner circle. We also know that Ghana does not have a written document of national best practices and procedures that must be employed at oil and gas fields at the first sign of any operational problem that affects or has the potential to affect the environment and people. We also know we do not have a highly trained team that can be deployed in a matter of minutes to the scene of oilfield emergency.
Instead of making the idea of rushing into exploration the foremost priority of government the good doctor should look to the refinement of government contract capabilities, accident containment capabilities and capacity, storage capacity and capabilities for hazardous materials and above all a capacity of government to limit the amount of financial bleeding we take on in each government contract
It is only when we can extract maximum financial benefits for the people of Ghana and have the capacity to arrest the potential environmental damages associated with those operations that we can and should encourage the government to create a conducive environment for investors from afar.

There is oil in and around Daboya near Tamale, and also around the area known as 'overseas' in the northern region. There maybe oil in Navrongo, and the Fumbesi valley in the Upper East region. Uranium, and the most important mineral man needs for development iron ore are found in huge quantities between Walewale and Nalerigu and to the east of the historic town Yendi. Gold is found in nine regions. Diamond is found in the Nangode gold mines. Ghana is blessed. What we need is competent, nationalistic, non corrupt leaders who can lead the process to add value to our minerals and help industrialise the country by looking inward. In addition we have solar, solar and solar waiting to be utilised.
