We are tired about this low gold price story. The gov't must enforce transparency in all mining companies activities and we will get the true story. They should walk away if the gold price is low

Over the last hundred years the Akyem Akwatia diamond mine contributed in no small way to the countries revenue. In the 1960's the mine produced more than a million carats of diamonds annually. A carat of diamonds, depending on its quality, ranges from $1500 to $100,000. However a casual visit to the Akyem districts which make up more than half of the population of the Eastern Region in Ghana would reveal the deplorable state of the districts. Were royalties paid?
It is therefore not surprising that the Akyem districts are opposed to the proposed newmont gold mine.
Mining companies must have their bank accounts in the state owned banks like ADB and GCB. All their sales must be transferred to these bank accounts so that the government can properly audit their operations.
