Under Ghana laws, the GPHA is the only authorized body in Ghana charged to operate and manage ports. The government should direct Lonrho to partner GPHA for the development of this facility. The GPHA has similar arrangements with port operators like MPS and others that are working well. The GPHA should resist this move by Lonrho. It is an encroachment on their rights as port operators. The Ghana Navy and Airforce have are currently operating the Takoradi Naval Yard and the Takoradi Airport as commercial entities while the GPHA and Ghana Airports stand and look. Who sets the rates for these services? These arrangements have the potential to undermine the GPHA's and Ghana Airports Company's tariff. GPHA and Ghana Airports Company should enter into some arrangements with the Navy and Airforce to lease their facilities and on -lease to customers. If we continue on this path, everyone would just walk to the seat of government and cut a deal that could potentially undermine these vital state institutions.

Tweaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. GPHA for where? You People think we are fools right? How has the GPHA been managing the two ports under its care so far? How much is it paying government in dividends? You corrupt people at the ports, who don't think beyond what u can get for ur pockets, must shut up and allow these investors to do their work. If u were proactive, Lonrho would not have come in. You now know that GPHA is the authorized body to do port operations. Shaaaaame!!!!!

With this project announcement, the government is sending wrong signals to the investor community. GPHA is currently seeking investments on the international markets for capital improvements at the Takoradi & Tema Ports. Any indications that the lucrative revenue accruing from the oil & gas port facilities/ services is out of their reach spells doom for the plan to expand the ports. The contributions of GPHA to the Ghanaian economy and the development of this country is too great and sensitive a price to give away to Lonrho for a chump change. If Lonrho is interested in Ghana, they should invest in the Agriculture sector. We have hectares upon hectares of land that could be irrigated with our abundant water resources for food and cash crops. The government should preserve our vital national assets and interests like the ports. Please do not read any politics into this. Enough of NDC /NPP already!!!

In fact, the GPHA never thought of a project like this. How sad

This project is a gimmick and it will not see day of light. Why should cabinet approve US$650million to a project wholly funded Lonrho?Atuabo gas project which is suppose energy for both power generation and domestic use is becoming history and is lack funding and we are being toy with completion phantom of postponement. Why did Ghana Government approve US$650million to a project wholly funded Lonrho and abandon Suhun-Apedwa highway at the cost of GHC158million.GRA CEO gave tax payers GHc178million to Subah which can complete this highway for job no don't and still at post and not fired.Am calling on all interested parliamentarians to agree with me to call for investigation into cabinet approval of US$650million into a project that is suppose to be wholly finance by Lonrho.Mahama and his cabinet has stolen tax payers of US$650million and is it that parliament which approved a loan and budget was not allow to approve this US$650million if Mahama and Cabinet has nothing to hide.We need investigation and answers.

I am concerned about Lonrho's participation in the free port.
Does this mean goods passing through the port will be duty-free?
Who stands to gain most from the port - Lonhro or Ghana?
