Technology is the key, let's get some help with training either from the US or UK so that we can streamline the operations at the port. Corruption is rife at the Tema port so until people loose their jobs and we introduce a system where we use less humans and more machines in payments etc, warnings will fall on deaf ears. They are all in on it, from the top man to the lowest custom officer. It's a hell hole at our ports. We will definitely loose out to Cote D'voire soon. Mark my words.

Mr President, i beg to differ. If i were you,i would not have set a foot at the port because i have delegated my authority to the sector minister.
I would have given the sector minister a deadline to come up with a plan to solve the problem. If he cannot do it replace him with someone who can. In this way, you can concentrate on the functions which cannot be delegated.
You are trying to do things like the biblical Moses(Please read:Exodus 18:13-24) which is onerous and energy-sapping.You cannot delegate your authority and then turn around to perform it.It is the delegated duty of the minister to identify those problems and provide the required solutions. In fact, if the sector minister is smart, efficient and alive to his responsibilities, the problems at the port should not be told to you. Only a report of the solutions should be on your desk.

Say it again Lord. This is sound advice to our President. What Ghanaians need in these times is action and not words. Admonishing the Officials at the Port did not work yesterday and I do not see how that is going to work now!The late President threatened the corrupt officials but that never moved them an inch.Who says they do not know how to shorten the processes at the ports? They choose to have what we have now simply because that is how they can milk the system.Frustrate the traders and they would be left with no option but to pay bribes. It is as simple as that.

What makes a port competitive and attractive is effective Administration,Logistics,Rapidity and Reasonable charges. There is too much paper works, high charges and very slow processing;amounting to inefficiency, bribery and corruption. Some of the Custom officials should be sent to Togo,Ivory Coast and Senegal to see how our competitors are running their ports. The stupid laws to ban imported used fridges and tyres without given specifications tells you where we are heading to.Mr President, you can build even 20 new ports today,if your duties, handling charges,Vat etc are too high;nobody will use your port again. That is the bottom line.In Europe for example,Belgium has the most attractive port charges and they are making millions of euros daily whilst other ports next to them are closing down. They work day and night, ready to solve any problem quickly because their whole economy depends on the ports.I don't think we know the value of the ports we have until we lose all the business.Thank you.

WE WILL DEFINITELY LOSE DOING BUSINESS WITH IMPORTERS FROM MALI, BURKINA FASO AND NIGER TO OUR NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES JUST BECAUSE OF THE BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION OF THE CEPS.

VISITING TEMA PORT ANS BLURTING OUT THE FOLLOWING DOSE NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM:
AND I QUOTE PRESIDENT MAHAMA
"We must understand that we are in competition with other ports in Cote d'Ivoire and Togo," the President reminded workers, calling on them to solve the issue before "we lose business".
UNQUOTE "PRESIDENT" MAHAMA.
MAHAMA SHOULD KNOW THAT ATTA-MILLS DID THIS. WHERE DID THAT END? NOWHWERE!!
WHAT THESE PRESIDENT LEADERS SHOULD DO OR SHOULD HAVE DONE, IF THEY REALLY ARE SERIOUS WITH THEIR WORK AS PRESIDENTS, IS AS FOLLOWS:
1. CALL IN THE HEADS AT THE TEMA AND OTHER PORTS INTO HIS OFFICE, TALK TO THEM SERIOUSLY, INCLUDING ASKING THEM TO IDENTIFY, IN WRITING, THE MAIN CAUSES OF THE DELAYS AND USELESS "RED TAPE" AT THE PORTS.
2. GIVE THEM ULTIMATUMS OR TIME LIMITS TO COME UP WITH SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS OF DELAYS.
3. WRITE TO THEM A MOU TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION AT THE COUNTRY'S PORTS.
4. WHOEVER DOES NOT MEET THE ULTIMATUM GETS THE SACK, SIMPLE.
THIS LAZY WAY OF GHANA'S SUCCESSIVE PRESIDENTS HANDLING OF THE AFFAIRS OF THE STATE OF GHANA AND THE "KIDS GLOVE" WAY OF MANAGING HEADS OF PUBLIC INSITUTIONS PROVIDES AMPLE REASON WHY ALL OF GHANA'S PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS UNDERPERFORM.
GHANA PLC MUST BE RUN SRICTLY ALONG BUSINESS LINES.
IF THE STRATEGIC BUSINESS UNITS (STATE INSTITUTIONS) UNDERPERFORM, THAT AFFECTS THE ENTIRE GOVERNMENT SETUP.
