The TUC should be reminded that in the global economy nothing comes cheap for consumers. In EU countries as in the US and some democratic African countries, utility tariffs move upward quarterly yet, the countries' labour unions don't strike every time because of the increases. If, anything, they, stoically, bear the hardships in return for enjoying abundant supply utility and comfort.
Ghanaian TUC must make a choice whether to have more and better utilities, or small inefficient ones for the country. Surely, Energy providers have to invest in their businesses; to invest they need money - the money should come either through sales or through borrowing with interest. Either way the consumer pays for it.
On the other hand, if the gov't were to construct and provide utilities cheaper or continue to subsidise their consumption, it should be understood that other sectors requiring development in the economy will be curtailed, leaving the country in perpetually under-developed.
