IT WILL BE WISE FOR AVIATION INDUSTRY TO LOOSE SO THAT TOURISM, BUSINESS AND OTHER SECTORS GAIN ATB THIS TIME....ALhaji I dont support you on this. The military under NPP and NDC got planes which are idle and only transporting officials. How much have they contributed back towards the state or that purchase? However if we had a national carrier, that would have brought profit to the state. What we need to do are
1,to make sure those who brought GIA to its knees don't get job there again. Don't talk of experience. They have experience in curruption and not managing.
2.The landing charges for our airline should be reduced or cancelled so that it will be cheaper for Ghanaians to get on board than for them to take BA or KLM.
3.Make more family packages so that Ghanaian families will travel on the airline. I have been in abroad for ten years now and the young ones born to Ghanaians have no interest in coming there because they have not visited there before. In a few years time when those of us who were born there have died or incapable of travelling around, nobody will come there to spend money and all other sectors will loose. Think that travelers not only spend money on flights but on food, Ghjana goods , transport within the country and so on. Why do you think Europeans make flights to their countries cheaper yet their airlines keep flying? What you spend on is more important to them than the flight.A word to the wise,

..However how do you explain the chaff of BoDs that we create after setting up these ventures? SOE aviation in Ghana will not work because we are a people who believe in patronage.. We will pack these companies with cronies and eat the entrails.. It started from Nkrumah's time when WAA ( West African Airways) gave birth to Ghana Airways.. who were sent there to manage? politicians who had no clue! It was the prestige. What did they do?? Ask any older person hat is called ' precious kenkey'.. We stuffed kenkey balls with diamonds!!! Then later on it was 'wrap around' weed by the staff and bigmen wives..then Liman's era it was free ride for all business men who could haul tonnes of private and commercial goods..duty-free, tax-free and basically free everything..at the expense of paying customers...Then the era of pilot-managers came.. Just because I can fly means I can also manage an airline.. total mess, wrong decisions because the pilots bought aircrafts that they FANCIED not because it made economic sense...the latter days was let's kill it and eat it's entrails/ offal..it's like sending drones to kill or using CUTLASS to do same..Another Ghana airways WILL BE MISMANAGED..government and their family and friends/cohorts will misuse it..Smart managers will be frustrated by their useless political Board of Directors and they will eventually make POPULIST DECISIONS..If it's about national pride then from scratch it should have a managing partner that also have a say in the set up of the board and all decisions.. BUT WHOLLY GHANAIAN is like sending my kid to the toy shop!

Business is not run on the basis of patriotism. It run on the basis of making profit and to grow the economy. A national airline is a good idea but should be the sole business of the private sector with government support in providing infrastructure like upgrading all major airports and elevating regional ones to like Kumasi, Tamale and Bolga to international status.
When government gets into business enterprises it becomes the piggy bank of government officials through corruption and eventually that enterprise collapses.
So Mr. Banda is right and have the legal authority as a citizen to challenge the idea in the court of law. I'm very proud of such a man who has the courage to do this. I wish more Ghanaians will take up this moral mantle and force the government to get out of the way in all major enterprises like electricity generation, oil refinery and the water supply. The private sector all the world over is more efficient than government entity.
Kudos to Mr. Banda he might be a good businessman with a lot of bravado.

Asuma Banda is right one hundred percent. This foolish talk by the so called ignorant minister is because she is not exposed and does not understand anything about airline. Let me express some few things to her, may be she is talking about one small Fokker 28 or one plane based at the KIA. Al the major carriers, let me not go to the world but Africa here: SAA, ET, KQ (hope she will understand these abbreviations)are private companies flying their national flags. However, the government owns shares in them and are represented on their management board. In addition, for example KQ, KLM owns a large size of their shares and even at a point, the management, the servicing etc were from KLM. This was exactly what KLM (Skyteam) and ET (Star Alliance) wanted to do to Ghana airways, making Accra the hub for west Africa. What this meant was all passengers travelling within the sub region will be dropped in Accra and Ghana Airways will distribute across Africa focusing more on West Africa just like KQ in the eastern Africa region. The Minister for transport then was Dr. Anane who could not just picture the scenario, hence giving it to Kuffuors son (Can you remember) and it was named Ghana International. It could not survive because the giver and the owner knew nothing about aviation just like the current minister.
We should stop going in circles. Even Ghana copuld not manage OMNIBUS, State transport, Black Star Line, Ghana Airways etc what is the current guarantee that these crops of Mahama's team (Criteria for selection: Those who can insult best, young graduates with sharp teeth, fresh female graduates with big hips, likes of Tony Aidoo, Okujeto Ablakwa, Fiffi Nettey etc.) can manage an airline.
For once lets stop moving in circles. Asuma Banda is right.

Thankfully some businessman in Ghana knows and understands the pitfalls of running national industries in present corrupt Ghana. When it comes to managing national institutions our governments clearly seem to lack the required know-how in every-day business as we have seen happen to many previous rundown national commdities. For now, therefore, untill the right calibre of business-minded people in government come along it would be wise for the country not to encourage anymore national disasters in marine or the aviation industry. In this case the Al-haji is perfectly alright to condemn the government in its future initiative to embark or another disaster in aviation.

@okyeman, 50 years ago, it was good strategy by GoG to lead the industrial drive because there were no benchmarks nor best-practices. Mind you the earlier Educated Ghanaians were clerical and peaked at law and legislation. Why? Because they were sculptured to 'copy cat' the white intelligentsia of those days --Mr. Tom out, Uncle Tom in--..So business, trading and general commerce was deemed a field for the 'Uneducated'..Hence GoG's decision apart from prestige and Arthur Lewis' Plan Economy strategy-- to get GoG involved in the industrialization drive.. After all, who had cash to build these industries.. What then happened?? CPP politicians were made bosses of these industries and supported by USSR, Czechoslovakian,Hungarian, Romanian, and Polish ex-pats..Mind you, in the Cold war and Communist days, these countries in USSR etc..were experts in ONLY ONE product and had NO EXPERTISE IN EXPORTING to Africa.. We were send snow ploughs, temperate region tillers etc.. It was a mess!! So Okyeman.. I believe the essence was for Government to start and handed over to QUALIFIED businessmen.. but what we did with these companies.. is there for all to see! We are DESTROYERS..not CREATORS!!!
