Kofi,

If Ghana were a hopeless country, the mauritians would not bring a trade and investment mission to Ghana.
It is our collective job to learn from our mistakes and manage our circumstances. Mauritius may have managed its circumstances relatively well but its circumstances - geographic, economic , social are different from Ghana's.
Every nation looks for markets for its goods and services. Ghana must do the same. it is not all down to government. If Ghana were not progressing investors would not be interested in our country
What have you done for Ghana except this kind of ignorant moaning and groaning ?

let me teach you some simple economics and sense here, trade is Always good when is win,win for both parties or country but in this case we are going to loose because our manufacturing sector is very weak. They are going to export more to Ghana while we almost export nothing there so its our local industries that are going to suffer and finally unemployment. They are going to export more and that means more job Creation in their country.

this shows you how incompetent the current leaders are.
we should be the ones adding value to our products and exporting them - not otherwise.

Magazines like the Economist describe nations falling into "Income Traps". Malaysia and Mexico are (well-known) Middle-Income Traps.
Africa -- with exceptions of Egypt, South Africa, and the money-laundering island countries like Seychelles and Mauritius -- is in a "Poverty Trap."
The trade that takes place between a random African country and a foreign one is always unidirectional: oil, bulk raw minerals, or plantation crops for manufactured goods or services (i.e, things that can require constant electricity), or foreign aid. Even the DR Congo engages in this type of trade.
The terms of the trade deal conducted with Mauritius as described in this article only seems to reinforce the Poverty Trap.
