If you, really, don't want to eat GM foods, then leave the US immediately. Because GMOs are in most foods you consume everyday. Do you guys eat ice cream at all? What about canola oil? What kind of maize do you think the US uses to raise the large heads of cattle from which we get our beef? What about the tonnes of chicken we import to Ghana? Guys, lets stop this kind of naivety and hypocrisy. Will somebody tell me a specific disease caused by GMOs? Our children are hungry and dying of malnutrition everyday. Our life expectancy is pitifully lower than countries where GMOs are prevalent. So what happens when I took a gene from an apple that encodes its hard skin and insert it into the genome of a tomato in order to harden the skin of the tomato? Haven't we been eating apples already? Wouldn't that increase the shelf life of tomato and ultimately reduce the over 30% postharvest loss farmers from Kintampo suffer each year? By the way, genetical modification in organisms is always and will always occuring in nature.

Genetically Modified foods should be rejected and not embraced in Ghana. Cargil is a subsidiary of Monsanto. Their only aim is profit. They control the seeds which the farmer has to buy every planting season. Then they sell you the insecticides and herbicides to go along with the seeds. That's the new form of colonialism. They make you dependent on something you don't need and in the process siphon your money away. "Chase those crazy baldheads out of town". -Bob Marley

Original African foods and seeds is the best.
I wonder why our leaders and CEOs with all their academic qualifications refuse to acknowledge simple things which one does not needed a Masters Degree to know.

I wonder why our leaders and CEOs with all their academic qualifications refuse to acknowledge simple things which one does not needed a Masters Degree to know. But takes delight to embrace anything foreign irrespective of economic and health hazards all in the name of advancement.
Is it excessive greed and therefore bribery?

I totally agree that if Monsanto has been forced to withdraw their applications for GM foods in the EU and a moratorium from the Indian courts then the government must be cautious. There is no need to put the health of the nation at risk. Mr. President, I respectfully urge you to use your executive power to put an indefinite moratorium on these foods. The advocacy groups may have to look to the courts if politicians cannot do the right thing for the people of Ghana. As it is now, we do not know the long term effects of these modified foods. The EU and Indians may know something our politicians don't know. Lets find out.
