Thank you spin Dr.Daniel Lartey. The decline is truely a result of the very "intentional" adherence to international protocols. I can remember all the time cocoa production went up in year after year, and we hailed it as an improvement. Now a decline and this too is an improvement.
20% reduction in cocoa is a result of the gov't complete lack of attention in agriculture. Fruits from Ghana have been banned abroad because we won't invest in proper storage and post-harvest care. Cocoa is down because we let galamsey steal farmland and poison rivers. All the investments in starch processing, rice cultivation, guinea fowl have all declined and are almost dead.
But good news, according to Dr. Spin Daniel Lartey this is all normal. Thank you ohhh Dr.

What the heck are they talking about. Seems we are in a sinking boat but the captain can't tell us what's happening.

Do we elect and or allow presidents of Ghana to appoint fools? What are the international protocols that call for downwards pressures on cocoa production in Ghana? Do we have international protocols that seek lower production levels for diamond, gold, oil, cars and other commodities? What Ghana's elite class cannot do to the nation is act all too powerful and all knowing at home while they allow their international counterparts to dictate to them like children in grade school.
Ghana could not ask developed nations to bring their commodity prices down to the purchasing power levels of our currency neither do we ask them to bring production level down so we can compete on the open market. It is one thing for trading partners to ask us to meet hygienic and processing standards but it is completely false and stupid for this so-called Minister of Food and Agriculture to imply that our buyers can dictate our production levels.
Even if this was the dictate of our trading partners, Ghana’s government could continue to encourage our farmers to maintain and exceed/improve production while excess production is purchased by the government for storage. Cocoa is not a perishable commodity and can be processed into powder.

With the granting of licenses to engage in illegal surface mining in the country whereby crops are up-rooted for the gold under the soil, sooner or later there will be no cocoa or coconut. Chiefs and the ministry in charge of licensing "legal" mining enjoy how their pockets look like. Chop what you can have when you get it and forget about the country's economy when you are no more in power. Mr. Clement Kofi Humado can spin the reason whichever way he is comfortable with but the fact is THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY LICENSE FOR SURFACE MINING. Not even to Ghanaian citizens. PERIOD. It destroys our environment, pollute our drinking water and rivers. What happened to Bogoso, Prestea and Obuasi gold mines? Any chief giving the public land (of which he is a caretaker) for surface mining should be thrown out of his stool.

This is simply an issue of complete policy failure. It is simply an issue of change in focus. It is a pity we can't see the value in the Cocoa Sector. Oil alone can not save Ghana, it hadn't saved Nigeria....
