  The Bank of Ghana should note the advice of the IMF but take it and act on it if only it is in the interest of the economy of Ghana.

  The Bank of Ghana should note the advice of the IMF but take it and act on it if only it is in the interest of the economy of Ghana.
  
  We have been struggling with this ONE FITS ALL advice of the IMF for years . They employed this approach to ruin our industries when they advised a divestiture in the past which was ill-advisedly accepted by a not very knowing government of Ghana. The gains have only been very iffy.
  
  This time they are unto the banks of Ghana.
  
  It should be obvious that the capital of the banks have been determined by the size and demands of the economy. The Banks cannot by edict be asked to increase their capitals when there is no demand. It would be arbitrary.
  
  What the Bank of Ghana should be asking the banks to do rather, is to deepen their expertise and specialization so that there are Banks with many and different specializations serving all sectors of the economy. This approach is more likely to help the economy to grow far better as the banks are able to respond to different and many demands of the market
