Ghana has recorded a current account deficit of US$1.1 billion in the first quarter of 2013 compared to a deficit of US$986.6 million in the same period of 2012. This means that the country's total imports of goods, services and transfers is greater than the total export of goods, services and transfers indicating that, Ghana is a net debtor to the rest of the world.

Ghana can not go on importing, mostly, consumer goods. It must be better if the larger proportion of our imports are capital goods which, by their nature, could be used to produce most of our consumer goods. Unless Ghana cuts down consumable the trade deficit will continue to rise. And the benefit from oil and gas production will come to nought. Though our home-made goods have not reached a stage of comparative quality, Ghanaians must learn to use them, however, inferior, for the time being. Improvements of our goods will only come through experience, and experience requires time. The government must, therefore, take action of this as Kwame Nkrumah did at a time to lure Ghanaians to change their habits of preferring foreign goods to local made ones. It's a common sense! It shows the government is in charge, really!

Kwame, you are not being realistic. Where is your sense of reasoning? Have you forgotten or oblivious of who is in power? If as a Ghanaian you don't know the party in power and the President who clearly demonstrated to everyone his ineptitude to govern and is lacking a senses of purpose that is to seek the best interest of the very people(Ghanaians) who put him there. how can you turn around and blame NDC? After all, NDC has nothing to do with the Mahama administration. Finally, unless you are a coward and afraid to point your finger at Mahama and NPP for the inglorious situation Ghana is in now, the best way you can help Ghanaians and yourself is to direct all your criticism to Mahama and NPP.

QUOTES OF THE MONTH
QUOTE 1
What bothers me is President Mahama. He seems to be a nice person
and seems like he likes the good life. Some even suggest he likes women too
much. But I am getting gradually angry he will let the crooks around him to
the same things they did when Mills was in charge. See, in chaos, nice
people don't last. In places like African the only leaders we have had who
did excellent job and even the British Royals were afraid of him was Shaka
Zulu. Kwame Nkrumah was playing both sides, and eventually they got to him.
Now some are saying Mahama, as VP, was mostly in charge of all the contracts
and travels to Korea and China deals and so forth and purchasing aircraft
and now fling to France on their Jet Plane,, and spending $500 million more
last year than budgeted for??? Was he involved in all the deals and making
millions on the side for friends or relatives?
This RLG smells foul! The SADA deal smells bad! Then they talk of some
guinea fowls deals also!
Huh!!
Who does he think he is?
He thinks he is a King also? Like perhaps Kufuor thought?
Look, folks, I have nothing against Kings, but for God's sake, I paid $9,000
to take delivery of a small SUV I paid $6,000 for. Multiply that by some
500,000 travelers and shipments per year on various goods. For anybody to
take that money to buy himself anything he wants in the world, including
private Jets to take pictures in France, and not even purchase pumps for
Water treatment facilities or equipment for Transformer stations for
electricity, and leave us with unclean hospitals where electricity can be
cut off during surgery, and people sitting in darkness for days,, no! No!
No!!
And moreover he flew to Turkey to arrange for a private gold shipment to be
released?
I have requested what will make me have faith in the man,, and I am waiting.
So far nobody has been investigated and nobody has been brought before the
courts under Mahama's rule and the cocaine that turned into baking soda is
still a mystery.
And the opposition are sitting praying that Judge Atuguba and the Supreme
Court will give them the victory, and until then, if they did not win, then
water or no water they will remain silent! Eeeei! So is that what people
think of democracy?
Hmmm!

QUOTE 2
Well dressed in nice suits, articulate for Ghana but most of them were mere covering the misdeeds underneath. It’s been 40 years and we can’t even get Water and electricity!!
Forget whatever excuses and nice words Mahama had in Paris!!
Forget it!!
He was vice President before and president for a year now,, and nobody is expecting total solution and Nirvana now, but for God’s sake, why can a Chinese given a Contract report in the ChinaDaily details of a Water treatment facility, giving the loan amount, term of the loan, project size, percentage of Ghana and Chinese employees, etc, etc and so forth, and we can’t do it.
We are too dishonest to give details?

THE ECONOMY CANNOT IMPROVE BECAUSE OF THIS:AMISSAH ARTHUR WAS GOVERNOR OF BANK OF GHANA WHEN MILLS WAS PRESIDENT, WITH JOHN MAHAMA AS HIS VICE, AND HEAD OF THE ECONOMIC MANGEMENT COMMITTEE, WITH SETH TERKPER AS A DEPUTY FINANCE MINISTER, AND AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT IN ALL DISCUSSIONS. THE ECONOMY DID NOT DO WELL. THEN MILLS DIES, MAHAMA BECOMES PRESIDENT, APPOINTS AMISSAH ARTHUR AS HIS VICE, AND MAKES SETH TERKPER MINISTER OF FINANCE, MAKING AMISSAH ARTHUR HEAD OF THE ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT TEAM.WHAT IMPROVEMENT CAN BE EXPECTED IN THE ECONOMY OF THE COUNTRY? WORSE THINGS ARE YET TO HAPPEN.

I have always stated that ''Until we become investors of our natural resources we will never go forward as a nation''.Yes!I agree with most of my friends on the comments made but imports will always exceed our exports so far as we continue to ship our raw materials abroad. Graduates are not ready to go into agribusinesses, and no idea of creating jobs. Indeed, banks must give loans to help private enterprises with minimum interest rates if we want people to be independent.
