Ghana’s cedi, West Africa’s worst performing currency this year, will depreciate about 5 percent in 2013 to a record low on greater demand for imports, according to the country’s second-biggest bank.
The currency of the world’s second-biggest cocoa producer weakened 14 percent in 2012 and is down 3.6 percent this year, the worst performer among seven West African currencies. Ghana’s debut as an oil exporter in 2010 fueled the fastest economic growth on the continent and spurred a rise in imports that are paid for in dollars, adding pressure on the cedi as traders seek notes to exchange.

1. Selective import restrictions for three years to control the current account.
2. Suspend the $1 billion debt bond because it is robbing Peter to pay Paul.
3. Prioritize and focus on commodity based industrialization for domestic consumption and export
4. Review the externally generated industrial policies.
5. Defend the Cedi at current March 2013 value
6. Suspend all strikes for three years.
7. Suspend all exgratia payments because of the economy management crisis

Dr. Robert Glah, please send your message across to the national assembly so that they can know what to do. I'm wondering whether they'd listen to you because they have gotten used to living big and stealing state money under so many guises.
I am no NPP supporter but the Kuffour regime did Ghana well and great with the revaluation of the Cedi. But now what do we see? The Cedi is plumetting headlong from the summit to the ravine. This must be checked.
