No wonder the tourists are going away slowly. If nothing is done the tourism industry will come into shambles. For example the so called hotels which in Europe or any developed country can be classified 4 or 5 star costs say, 50euros per night. Here in Ghana a "hotel" which in a developed country can be classified 1 star hostal, or bread & brakefast, cost about 100 euros per night. Imagine a tourist come to pay such a huge sum, why doesn't he go to a neighbouring country. I know the owners of the so-called hotel follow blindly just to have some five rooms apartment and call it a "hotel". The Government must step into this asap, to cut all those "hostals" which call themselves hotel, their prices down, to enable tourists come to the country.

In Cote d'Ivore and Togo, musicians get paid royalty from an institution that gets money from radio stations for music play on air.
For the past 40 yrs we in the entertainment business in Ghana, can't get royalty from nowhere, even though our music is used to sell commercials on radio stations and tvs.
This's about law.
Why similarly rated motels in neighboring countries could charge 50-75% less than that of Ghana? The tourist just want to see Africa, so now they're going to our competitors and to them they don't lose nothing if they don't come to Ghana.
So it is wise to go to your competitor and see what he's doing that you are not doing, that's how a wise man lives, and not throwing your weight around.

Where are all the friendly Ghanaians I met in the early years (1985 to 1995)? Since my last visit, last year I don´t feel save anymore in Ghana. Also the living conditions are worse than before. Look at the dirty beaches, plastic everywhere. Nearly daily cut of power is also not helpful for tourists. I´m happy to meet the friendly Ghanaians before, but I´ll never come there again - sorry to say

If you are afraid to critism, you ever grow. Look early this year my friends wanted to visit ghana. Visa and hotel fees in ghana compare to South Africa they rather chose to visit South Africa than ghana. Beside, comparing both countries, South Africa is more and more developed than ghana 100%. More tourist attractions. Only thing that ghana can boast of is filt all over their best city so called Accra. Where is your forward ever, backwards never dream. Is that what Nkrumah fought for? That time of Nkrumah was more cleaner than what you people call modern ghana. Apooooooo tooooooo!

Flights to the north cost of Jamaica( Ochio Rios, Montego Bay etc) will not be more than $700 and an all inclusive 4 star Beach Front hotel will not be more than $800. Having connection to the hotel business I can tell you the overheads and numerous unreasonable taxation contributes to high Hotel charges.
Instead of govts spreading its tax net, the are screwing the few structure dependents like hotels.
Ask any hotel operator for list of annual charges plus providing water, electricity, sanitation, sometimes roads.
Even the high air fares to Ghana is due to high tax on aviation fuel in Ghana. So blame our incompetent politicians and their policy makers who do not have creative mind except consumption.

It is a good one, these words said really need to be understood by all Ghanaians who want to see Ghana make great strides very well in tourism which in real sense brings money and development to a nation. It is well said with the example of the Chinese enclave of Macao.
Fellow citizens, do not choose to enter into blame game in this discussion, the reason is Tourism is not an area that even the politicians in parliament are acquainted with nor do realize and acknowledge that it could really bring in big capital to our nation. It is beyond their intelligence, because comparatively they can VERY WELL understand things pertaining to Gold ,timber, 4x4, houses that they built in their villages and the ones in Accra. Basically these are the things that we are very well acquainted with period.
This is the sickness of everybody in the Ghana today, now, if we want to start to realise the realities of Tourism then this is the good time that we all have to get on board with words of encouragement in the area of tourism. And this has to start in our parliament, but as said it is unfortunate that they in there can not agree on things of major importance that they are not aware of.
If all of you could agree with me, I may then say it should begin somewhere, from the FM stations which today have been overtaken by the blame game politics down in the nation which has unluckly done more damage to our communities than good;- political hatred, tribalism, disunity in areas of development. Well this is where we are now, it is our duty to start finding solutions to some of these sad occurencies of not having good knowledge about ruling a nation.
Even to add knowledge to the talks of knowledge about tourism, I may suggest even the training of the JHS students who could not enter into the SHS in the aeas of capentry, mechanics, masonry, gas and electric welding, painters, you name them, could even bring to our nation transfer of capitals when they could be exported to areas in the world where they are needed. The Philipinos trained nurses and export them all over the world and this earn their nation heavy foreign exchange, and it is this that is classified as their second national earner. Well we stand chance of learning more to uplift our nation to the level of the coming Chinese.

The issue is not, for me, the visa fees because in the UK you pay from £50 for a 3 month visa so not sure where the reference to costing from $150 comes from.
The pricing of local rates in USD and lack of COORDINATED effort in developing the tourism industry is the problem. People who travel to developing countries do not expect to be paying for goods and hotels in dollars. It undermines the attractiveness of the country as people are wary of the costs, not everyone visiting Ghana as a tourist is loaded with money. If you are cost conscious then despite the natural and cultural attractions why would you blow money in Ghana when the infrastructure and crazy pricing isd undermining the tourism trade.
Government has to take the lead, and put in measures to stop dollarisation of local goods and services and spend some of the loans it is getting on things that can generate sustainable growth and jobs such as tourism.

It is ONLY THE USUAL OLD PHRASES....when asked about their ministries! We get MOSTLY ONE-TIME VISITORS because so many things are NOT functioning ....water,TOILETS, electricity, filth all around, the price levels...! Many wouldn't want to come a 2nd and third time BECAUSE of the INCONVENIENCES!!!
We are just NOT SERIOUS TO DEVELOP A TOURIST INDUSTRY!

To eradicate the phenomena, govt should as a first step, stop cheating the citizenry who live outside Ghana, and importers.by accepting Gh Cedi(local currency) as the mode of payment.
2nd. There should be nothing like foreign currency shops. All must accept Cedis as the legal tender.3.Only hotels could accept both cedis and foreign currency. These simple measures would quickly change the foreign currency craze in the country.
