The NDC government was so desperate to hund on to power that it did not hesitate to use taxpayers money to fund its 2012 election campaign. Hard working Ghanaians hard earned money was used to bribe certain factions of society. Rumour has it that University students (mostly of the fairer sex) were given Hyundai vehicles in return for votes, SHS students were bribed with RLG laptops bearing photographs of the NDC's flagbearer, women were being given gifts of half piece cloth and GHC50.00 all in the name of campaigning. Not to mention the large billboards across the length and breadth of this country with Mahama staring us in the face every where Ghanaians turned. Oh yes and the many NDC campaign vehicles. At the same time NDC officials who were fearful of the outcome of the elctions were busy stashing away money they had managed to steal whilst others like Elvis Afriyie Ankrah were hastily buying properties (According to Kennedy Agyepong). And even when the NDC "won" the elections, many parastatal companies placed full page congratulatory adverts in the dailies instead of using those funds to improve upon their services. The NDC government dod not stop to think. Now the country which is very natural resources rich is so broke it cant pay doctors, teachers, pharmasists etc their entitlements. Nor can they meet other obligations such as honour their part of the Ghana Gas Company deal. Na who cause am? Unfortunately, our politicians are so greedy that they wont learn lessons from this serious misdemeanour of theirs. Shame the NDC cannot be held to account for any of the money it misappropriated for the campaign.
