I am surprised the Mahama regime is continuing with this very bad and negative-for-the-region policy of discriminating against nationals of ECOWAS countries. It is simply untenable that fellow Africans can still be behaving towards each other like this, while we complain about white racism in Europe and America! Many of us who own our own businesses abroad did not even invest up to £20000 in order to start. Yet, we receive support from our host govts so that our businesses can grow, as they know the value we contribute to the community and the nation. How Asians took over some declining English cities and revived them is a story well known.
Trade amongst African peoples is very, very low at the moment and must be raised for our mutual benefit. The unnatural colonial borders are hindrances to trade and prosperity. Even during the colonial times, a lot of trading was allowed across borders. The British, for instance, allowed people from the southern VR to sell their copra in Togo whenever the prices were better there. Better to allow them to sell it legally and collect duties or force them to smuggle it and lose the duties too.
So what has been happening since independence is brain dead actions by people who don't know how to develop a country! That's why our standard of living dropped and just managed to climb to the 1960 level the ancestors of some of us managed to raise Ghanaians standard of living to decades ago. Those Nigerians and other foreigners contributed enormously to achieving that high standard of living, comparable to southern and eastern Europe then. Busia's Aliens Compliance Order marked the rapid decline of Ghana's economy, as the over a million seasonal migrants that came into Ghana each year to provide essential labour ceased, the productive activities of those already settled in were terminated and Ghanaians failed to fill much of the gap left.
A pity we now have ignorant morons and idiots ruling us! The NDC and NPP are very bad for Ghanaians, unfortunately, many don't seem to know this!

The ECOWAS treaty allows free trade among member nations but I wonder if ghanaians enjoy the same privileges in other ECOWAS countries like Nigeria. Whatever the flaws are I think they can be worked out amicably to promote the development of the ECOWAS sub region.

The president of the group, Deacon John Igwe Ukala, as he equated the treatment being meted out to them to the reintroduction of the Aliens Compliance Law under the Busia regime, can he also remember the treatment meted to Ghanaians in 1982 and 1983? Is is not worse than what he mentioned? When this happened were there no other nationals in Nigeria? But Nigerians made Ghanaians their target to repatriate them in a very painful manner.
