Haruna I admire your stand. The main products the Ghana exports to EU are agricultural products. EU subsidy their farmers and therefore Ghanaian farmers cannot compete on price.
You and your colleagues must stand firm.

I hope you will not change your decision to sign the EPA. This (EPA)agreement means nobody should go hungry. For that matter, more efforts should be towards what you can produce much and allow others to supply you what you cannot produce much. The Aggreement also state that no individual or Government should be allowed to offer competitiveness. For the European partners what they need most from Ghana and Ivory Coast are cocoa and coffee.Indirectly, asking Ghana to concentrate on cocoa production. It is because of this reason that EX- Pres. Kuffour sprayed all cocoa farms in Ghana. and also encouraged the collapse of the local tomato and poutry farms which the Europeans are more capable of supplying to Ghanaian market. In the other side the agreement allows the Europeans to dump almost tax free goods in Ghanaian market, icluding all sort of branded tomato products and poultry products. This create job opportunities for their citizens.and making profit at the expense of the Ghanaian locals.Local tomatos are allowed to rot and the farmers become poor. In the other side, it is the AFRO SHOP, ghanaian owners who import agricultural food product, example yam, plantain etc. to europe for the Ghanaian community.Even the only Ghanaian product that I use to see in Supermarkets in Hamburg is Pineapple.Even because of poor preservation it has no profit compare to pineapple from Costa Rica. So , fellow Ghanaians should not be deceived of any advantages from this EPA. It is dangerous to Ghana economy. Ex-Pres. Kuffour rushed and signed the interim agreement whilst negotiation was under way before any other African country. Thinking he could get the best of the EPA before any African country join in. without understanding well the implication to the Ghanaian economy. That led to the collapse of local tomato factories and poultry farms in Ghana. Let the
EU Partners negotiate with ECOWAS block including fixing the ECOWAS common impot Tarif system, without singling Ghana. EU target Ghana, Ivory Coast and Nigeria because of what they will gain from them, not all the countries, forcing them to sign this agreement which EU knows it will have negative impacts for Africans. No Job, No Job but good jobs for Europeans.

Minister update yourself. Ivory Coast has already signed. And don't follow Nigeria. Nigeria has its $60b per annum oil revenues to support its economy.
Ghana cannot continue living in handouts from the international community whilst deliberately refusing to trade itself out of poverty.
Businesses are collapsing, no water , no electricity. Investments are falling simply because we are not interested to grow our economy and continue to be influenced by what these NGOs are telling you.
NGOs do not create jobs. Malaysia, Brazil, South Korea, India, Sri Lanka , Argentina have all signed EPAs with the EU. Ghana is no better than any of these countries. It is Ghana who stands to pay the price when tariffs are escalated on our exports to the EU for failure to sign up to the EPA. Nigeria would still have its $60b oil revenues to take care of itself. What about you Ghana. Are you still going to go around with the "Aid Collection Bowl" asking the Wrst " Gimme More"!

IT IS A GOOD AND BOLD DECISION NOT TO RUSH INTO ANY BINDING NON-BENEFICIAL CONTRACTS.
IF THE GOVERNMENTS DECIDES TO SIGN THE ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENTS IT SHOULD BE DONE AFTER EXPERT CONSULTATIONS WITH OTHER RELEVANT COUNTRIES AS MENTIONED(NIGERIA,IVORY COAST ETC)VIS-VIS OUR GHANA'S ECONOMY.IF THEY DECIDE TO GO AHEAD IT SHOULSD BE FOR AN EXPERIMENTAL PERIOD OF SAY 2 YEARS WITH THE OPTION TO OPT OUT OF THE CONTRACT AFTER THE 2 YEAR-PERIOD, IF WE FIND IT ECONOMICALLY DETRIMENTAL.
LET'S NOT RUSH.ONCE AGAIN "WELLDONE Haruna Iddrisu ".

This EPA is a cheat, Africa is exporting agricultural goods, the EU will not tax them but refuse them nased on their hygienic standarts not on tax standards, as soon as we sign we can't negiciate anymore. Another reason not to sign is that our tax regimes are not yet sophisticated enough. until that 2 issues have been adressed and the forthcoming problems solved, please don't sign. Well done minister !
