What exactly is organic farming?
I think that term is very misleading.
If organic farming should imply the growing of crops without the use of agro-chemicals like chemical fertilizers and pesticides, then I think that we Ghanaians are far ahead in organic farming.
In my village, my uncle just cultivate the land, plant the corn and cassava, and pray that the season is good, and more rains come, so the crops do well. Was that not organic farming?
This is just what is done in many parts of the country.
Not long ago, they called it primitive form of farming, because the farmers did not use fertilizers to increase production.
Now they have changed their tone. They have given it a fanciful and glorified name - Organic Farming.
Were we not practicing Organic Farming long time ago, before the introduction of these fertilizers and pesticides?
Ironically they mentioned only one African country - Uganda.
In most parts of Africa, our crops are 100% organic, because the farmers are poor and don't have the money to buy ferfitizer, so they plant their crops straight like that.
What is more organic than that?????

The report says sustainable food production will become more important in developing countries, “as the majority of population growth is concentrated in the world’s poorest countries.” My concern is that if it has not sustained food production now how can it with the growing population in developing worlds. How about the improved crop varieties are the sustainable? They trive well with the use of chemical fertilizer and the New minister designate is advocating for this. What really is the problem with Agriculture in developing world. We need to find out and hit it at its head.

WHY ALL THIS GENETIC ENGINEERING U ASK? WELL IT FEEDS MANY. THERE IS MORE FOOD TGO GIVE AWAY. THEN AGAIN, THERE R DRAWBACKS. GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS OR GMO ALSO HVE HEALTH EFFECTS. PPL WHO EAT THEM GET FAT, BLOATED, CONSTIPATED. THIS IS GOOD FOR THE HEALTH/PHARMA COMPANIES, HOSPITALS AS THEY STAND TO BENEFIT FINANCIALLY. IN NORTH AMERICA, EDUCATION IS THE KEY OR ELSE U WILL DIE EARLY. GH WILL BENEFIT IMMENSELY N FINANCIALLY BY GOING THE OPPOSITE ROUTE. GROW MORE ORGANIC FOODS, POULTRY, MEATS, WHEATS, VEGGIES. THESE WHITE FOLK WILL COME IN DROVES N PAY ANY AMOUNT TO BUY THOSE FOODS. GO TO ANY WHOLEFFODS STORE ON A WEEKEND N SEE THE CARS, RICH PPL THERE. THESE RICH PPL DONT WANT DISEASES SO THEY PREFER TO EAT ORGANIC FOODS. WEN I MOVE TO GH, IM GOING TO ENGAGE IN LARGE SCALE FARMING. EMPLOY MANY PPL N EXPORT THE FOOD OVERSEAS. USE THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE TO BRING DEV. TO MY PPL...BETTER URBAN PLANNING, WATER N DRAINAGE, HOSPITAL/CLINIC, TEACHERS, STADIUMS...CREATE JOBS!
