Prez John Mahama Will Not Go Far If...

A Policy Analyst of the People's National Convention(PNC),Atik Mohammed, has questioned the ability of President John Dramani Mahama in taking decisions on his own.
Atik Mohammed was speaking on how various groups were lobbying for positions for their people and regions and how according to him the President ended up including those people in his list of nominees.
"Immediately President John Mahama assumed office, various groups from some of the regions; Central, Volta and Northern emerged; some with agitations, trying to induce him to include people of their choice from their regions unto his list of ministerial appointments. One might see it as coincidence but one way or the other, most of those people were on the President’s ministerial list.
Speaking as a member of the panel on Radio Gold’s "Alhaji and Alhaji" programme with host Suhini Alhassan, Atik Mohammed said the President will not go far if he continues to listen to people who are agitated before making his decisions.
"We heard some agitations in the Northern region; Tamale specifically that if Hon. Haruna Iddrisu was not considered for one ministry out of the remaining one, there is going to be raining brimstone and so on.
Finally we saw the President heeding to that; so you find a President who is always responding to the reactions of people; for me, it is not a good sign of a President that this country needs…” he added.

This PNC policy anylyst is making sense and he is speaking the truth which hurts some people. When the Nzema Chief protested at the castle for a minister of Oil & Gas to come from his region what happened, the president did exactly so. It is a shame Regions like Brong Ahafo, Ashanti, Eastern and Greater Accra sat down for the Northen and the Volta Regions to lobby. All the ministers are from the 3 Northern Regions and Volta. The worse off is the Brong Ahafo region.

We saw the same thing under Mills, remember? A president who does not earn his position by the genuine political decision by the majority of the people, but was foisted on the nation by a criminal few, who know more than the rest of us, and can expose what is in the can, (worms), will pander to the whims and caprices of those criminal few! He cannot and will never have the moral courage to act right once those criminal few press a button. Remember the infamous statement by Mills that DCE's, Ministers and Diplomats should open their doors wide to accommodate the demands of NDC footsoldiers breathing fire and brimestone all over the country in the years 2009-2011? Hmmm! If there is any sign of the illegitimacy of this president as well, there you have it: constitutional dispositions will be flouted at will just to satisfy them. Remember how they vandalised a number of state institutions and party offices across the country and nothing happened. We have a government that is not legitimate and cannot do anything legitimate to protect our collective welfare. As a nation, we owe it a duty to ourselves to join in getting it out by exposing anything illegitimate they did to come to assume the reigns of government!

A Research fellow at the University of Ghana, Dr. Michael Kpesah Whyte has stated that the appointment of three persons to coordinate the implementation of Presidential priority projects will likely create “institutional conflicts and institutional ambiguity.”
Why so many ministers at the presidency and what exactly are their roles at the presidency? Is it a case of job for the boys? At a time when, the emoluments of the executive is at an all time high, such a huge number of ministers with no specific roles at the presidency, is not just counterproductive and economically and financially imprudent, but also, a clear case of duplication of efforts with no value for money, in such appointments. Such a huge number of desk pushers does not augur well for the efficient adminstration of government, in a time when, there are huge advances in information technology which could if well adopted,serve Ghana and our governance structures very well.
Dr. Whyte added that the three appointments will create “institutional conflicts and institutional ambiguity” and it will also raise the “cost of government and the cost of governance.”
Some chiefs in the Western Region are asking President John Mahama to appoint one of their own as Minister of the yet to be created Ministry of Gas and Oil Resources.Already, the chiefs have a nominee and they are praying that the president will elevate former deputy Energy minister, Emmanuel Kofi Boah and make him a substantive Minister of Oil and Gas.
