Who is planting cocoa in this 2026? Why plant cocoa and do all the dirty works whiles some dummy sitting at the office doing nothing but rather taking all the money and giving the farmers peanut..who in their right senses will continue to do this kind of job with low salary rewards..all over the world, farmers are among the richest people with the exception of African countries..someone should go through all this pains of planting cocoa and eventually harvesting them, do all the dirty jobs whiles someone is at the top who knows nothing about cocoa is getting paid enough money whiles the cocoa farmer is getting nothing in return..Govt has no desire to invest into factories in the country that can process this cocoa beans into chocolates so basically the whiteman is the one determining the price of cocoa..

Quite ill informed reportage. What is 10million shortfall against 4billion? Just simple arithmetic would inform a learned writer from twisting this incoherent narrative with pessimism. Give the industry a breathing space to flourish but keep them on their toes not to slip into successive governments traps and failed external exploitative loan syndications.

In proportion the 18,000 Office sitting Cocobaord staff should not take more than 3% of the bacon (proceeds).
Cocobod needs to reduce its staff strength to around 5,000 , use new technologies to run its operations and redirect resources to cocoa farmers without the need to raise extra shortfall.
Alternatively the farmers should wean themselves off the addiction of cocobods handouts and start moving into sectors such as Cashew, sheanut etc.
Also government should seriously consider liberalising the Cocoa Market and allow those on the border regions with Togo and Ivory Coast to sell into these markets when the market rate demands it, without labelling them as criminal smugglers.
As it is now, its Monkey (Cocoa Farmers) dey work, Baboon (Cocobod Staff) dey chop.
No wonder the CEO Opuni, under the previous NDC government, was able to bury his mother in a 3-bedroom, fully furnished apartment he built for her coffin in the cemetery

All problems concerning failure to pay Cocoa farmers, lack of funds to buy Cocoa for 2026/2027 Cocoa season and lack of technical knowledge about Cocoa were attributed by the CEO of Cocoabod Randy Abbey because , how can a football coach takes over Cocoa affairs. Even next time , government should appoint someone from Cocoa growing area to be the CEO not fisher man.
