The whole COCOBOD stinks, they're a drain on the hardwork of our Cocoa farmers .Whatever problem is happening to Cocoa pricing can be attributed to COCOBOD. Both NPP & NDC shd be blamed for that mess.

What do you expect? Cocoa Board executives have always taken cocoa farmers for fools and uneducated villagers with no organized union or leadership. Cocoa farming is the only career in Ghana where the government tax its income about 95% with only about 5% going to the poor villagers often referred to as "Kookoasefour". These farmers, from my great grand parents to myself from the hinterland who have carried this nation on our back for over a century have always been laughed at by the so-called educated Northerners, Fantis, Ewes, Gas and in general non Akans. They forgot that these same "Kookoasefour" financed their education at the University of Ghana after Otumfour Osei Agyemang Prempeh II provided the seed money for the building of University Ghana. These so-called elites set cocoa policy; how much to pay cocoa farmers and claim the 95% tax is for the development of Ghana. They built Cocoa House in Accra, Cocoa Hospitals and Clinics in Accra while the farmers whose sweat facilitated their education have no clinic to go to when they suffer snake bite at the farm. These so called educated smart bureaucrats award cocoa board scholarships to their children while the kids of cocoa farmers are deprived of it and often encouraged to go into cocoa farming just to continue the cycle of "monkey de work baboon de chop" They appoint people like Randy Abbey who believes cocoa grows underground like cassava to head Cocoa Board. Just recently, while they couldn't even pay the farmers for the cocoa they have already purchased for months, they were able to find money for the Cocoa Board Executives to import land cruiser cars for their comfort.
This blatant insult over the century to the majority groups in Ghana is just about to change; the advice to the villagers like myself is to hang tight. Very Very soon and as OD of "Osofo Dadzie Group" put it some years ago, "the owner of the something is the chopping, but not the hungry man". Things are about to change 360 degrees to where it should have been since colonial rule and its attempt to make the smaller groups rule the majority. Just Hang Tight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well written piece. Aside a few black spots. Maybe the farmers should form a stronger union.

Cocoa farmers have been short changed. The pricing is ridiculous. Yet you have people sitting on TV and praising the peanut that has been given to farmers. COCOBOD officials ride in expensive cars, go to hospital for free while farmers are at the mercy of high prices for inputs. The day of accountability will definitely come.
