This is what happens if you cannot manage your own affairs as a nation. How can the 6th largest producer of gold in the world go borrowing? And in return given some ridiculous conditionalities that forcibly keeps us poor. Is the IMF not aware of massive corruption they are benefiting from? Water and electricity tariffs are increased every four months based on some loan servicing agreement. Raising water and electricity tariffs just to repay loans that have been stolen by both NDC and NPP. It seems they don't know where to draw the line.

It's not a crime to go to IMF or WB but the frequency with which both NDC & NPP call on them is the issue. Again when the rate of Corruption is so high in your country they would never give you that respect that you desire. ... read full comment

Why can't SIGA itself identify the loopholes in our SOEs? Why wait for the IMF to come from outside and do it? SIGA was created to oversee and guide these enterprises—so why isn't it working?
The IMF's report pointed to politicised appointments as the main problem. When board and CEO positions are filled based on loyalty rather than competence, oversight becomes meaningless.
SIGA should be pointing out the challenges and offering solutions, not waiting for outsiders. IF YOUR HAND IS NO LONGER IN SOMEONE'S KITCHEN, HE MAY TRY TO BRING IT BACK—NOT TO HELP YOU, BUT TO CONTROL HOW MUCH YOU EAT.
If we have the capacity, what we need is the will. If we don't have it, let's employe international gurus to do the work of SIGA.

ALL past administrations have k own that SOEs have been drain on the resources of the state. They have refused to draw honest and candid attention to them because they, collectively, constitute a very convenient instrument for creating JOBS FOR THE BOYS. SOEs that have NEVER made any profits; we retain them and put our men on the Boards as Directors. For at least four years they draw sitting allowances plus other outrageous perks.. They don't need to perform. The Government, and other commentators are reacting to the IMF stance. If you create such a LOSS-MAKING MONSTER and you go a-borrowing every few years, you should not be surprised if your lender(IMF) points out to you, one of the major drains on your resources. Let us be honest with ourselves. The SOEs need to be drastically overhauled.
